After my riveting Friday night in I actually did have a jam-packed weekend (jam-packed with goodness).

9.29hips

After my long run Saturday I headed over to Om Yoga to teach hot vinyasa. Class request was to do handstand work so I had them move their mats against the wall halfway through class and we stayed that way for floor work. Supine frog and legs up the wall savansana are pretty much the best ever.

9.29claudia

One of my yogis makes beautiful and amazing cakes. She surprised me with a three layer chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting and Reese’s cups. All for me!!!!

Isn’t it beautiful!?

I had to stay after my 9:30 to cover prenatal so I made it out of the studio at noon. I had fun afternoon plans!

9.29salad

A day trip to Winston-Salem for a lunch date with TeriLyn from A Foodie Stays Fit. We enjoyed a late lunch at The Porch Kitchen and Cantina. Teri told me their salads were where its at so I went with her suggestion. They are huge and come in a mixing bowl. The salads are packed with goodness. This one had romaine, tortilla strips, grilled chicken, guacamole, corn, feta, black beans, peppers and lots of other miscellaneous veggies. It was DELICIOUS!

We spent a long time talking at lunch and then took the party back to her place where Leslie Ann joined us. I finally left around 6 p.m. Love these girls so much!

9.29roadtrip

The drive to Winston was super easy, around 90 minutes, and it was a great quick getaway from Charlotte.

9.29martini

I arrived home around 7:30 and immediately got ready for dinner. I went to one of my favorite spots in Charlotte, George’s. I got coerced into starting with a martini and the waiter recommended this combo of St. Germain, champagne, basil and citrus.

9.29moules

That was followed by an all-out moule + frites + le pain. While I love mussels, I love the carb fest that comes with them even more. Dipping bread in the broth is the BEST thing ever.

9.29cake

And if that wasn’t enough…there was cake for dessert. Hey, it was the weekend and long run day. Lots of refueling to do. (And I can never, ever say no to cake.)

9.29shrimp

The seafood feast continued on Sunday when I had a business meeting that night at the Palm. We started with shrimp and crab cocktail and I lit myself up with fresh horseradish. Love it so. Give me that burn.

9.29salmon

I wanted to keep my entree simple so I had a piece of salmon over a ceasar salad. The salmon was beautiful and perfectly cooked. My favorite part of the salad was the anchovies. So salty and so delicious!

And of course I had to end the night with another piece of cake. My sweet tooth knows no boundaries! 🙂 I savored every bite. My friend did an amazing job with this cake. The chocolate layers are thick and fudgy and the peanut butter icing is just right. Light and peanut butter-y.

What’s your favorite cake combination?

Anchovies…love ’em or leave ’em?

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
