Monday in the Life

Hey there.

I am moving fast…but it’s a blur of good. I woke up at 1 a.m. last night and started to panic about everything that I have on my plate (the middle of the night will do that to you every time!) but I reframed my anxiety to focus on feeling gratitude for the ABUNDANCE of opportunity instead of the LACK of time…and I fell right back asleep until my alarm sounded.

Here’s what a “day in the life Monday” to show you what an average day is looking like for me lately…

4:55 a.m. – alarm sounds

10.20sullie

I stumble out of bed and find Sullie in the office glaring at me for turning on the light and waking her up. Seriously that face!

10.20espresso

5 a.m. – espresso time. I make a shot of espresso in my Nespresso machine every morning and drink it while I’m getting ready. I was on this kick for a while where I drank herbal tea at the gym while I trained my first client but then I discovered that a shot of espresso has seriously magical powers. It kicks in by the time I get to the gym and makes me feel like a human instead of a tired robot trainer! 🙂

10.20breakfasttogo

5:20 a.m. – I pack up for the gym and put Sullie out to do her thing. She HATES going out this early and usually stays in bed until I get home but I have four clients in a row and a meeting and won’t be home until late so she has to go out. I took overnight oats, tea and cookies to the gym (to share with co-workers).

10.20sullie2

5:25 a.m. – Sullie comes in and heads straight back to bed. I leave for the gym.

5:30 a.m. – train client #1. Female client in her early 30s who is 6 months pregnant with her second baby. Her goal is to stay active throughout this pregnancy and I’m so impressed by her stamina and motivation.

6:30 a.m. – train client #2. Female client in her late 20s with an athletic background but works long hours with lots of sitting and high heels. We are focusing on strength training along with a lot of mobility and flexibility work.

7:30 a.m. – train client #3. Female client in her late 30s who started practicing yoga in my classes at Metro over 2 years ago, fell in love and has now gone through yoga teacher training and just started strength training for the first time in her life with me over the summer.

8:30 a.m. – train client #4. Male client in early 40s who is the husband of a close friend. Ex-Marine who has spent last few years focusing on strength training and wants to incorporate more high intensity and cardio training to drop some weight. He’s been loving his sessions with me… 😉

I’m giving you a brief background on each of my clients so that you can see how they all require a different focus and have unique goals. I did four different workouts with four different clients.

10.20oo

I made overnight oats for breakfast and ate half of them between my 6:30 and 7:30 client and the other half between my 7:30 and 8:30 client. It was the best I could do! Oats, bananas, chia seeds, pumpkin, 2% plain greek yogurt, almond milk, dried cranberries, pumpkin pie spice, peanut butter and pumpkin butter.

9:30 a.m. – stay at the gym to shoot a video on rolling out the feet for Run Charlotte Run and to do some blog paperwork.

10.20coffee

10:30 a.m. – meeting to discuss some yoga projects and GOD BLESS MY FRIEND for having a venti coffee waiting for me.

Noon – home and get straight on the computer. Edit video for Run Charlotte Run and film video in my living room for my flip dog to full wheel tutorial.

1 p.m. – Lunch

10.20soupsalad

Salad with spinach, apples, avocado, dried cranberries, goat cheese, beets and turkey, a bowl of butternut squash soup and two cookies.

1:15 p.m. – back on the computer where I edit video for my yoga tutorial and write PBR post for the day. I also work on a lot of promotional stuff for Metro. We’re launching a new special this week where new members get their first month unlimited for $49. This includes access to all three of our locations and all of our classes…including CrossFit, kickboxing, circuit training, yoga and spinning! It’s an incredible deal. On the marketing/communications front I’ve worked on graphics, Facebook covers, website sliders, website pages about the special on all three of our sites, staff communication about the special so they are in the know and an eblast sent via Constant Contact to go out to all of our prospects about the special. (Again explaining all of this so you can see what goes into the type of job I do…and all of that didn’t happen yesterday but it’s what I’ve worked on over the last three days.)

3:15 p.m. – 3 mile run

3:45 p.m. – shower and get ready to head back to the gym

4:30 p.m. – back at the gym for a yoga private

Male client in his 40s and he’s been with me for over 3 years now! He had never practiced yoga before we started our 2x week sessions when I first started full-time in fitness. It’s been amazing to watch his transformation! For this session we did 30 minutes of flow and 30 minutes of mobility work with foam rollers and lacrosse balls because he had a tennis match after our session that he wanted to stretch out for.

5:30 p.m. – coach CrossFit

6:30 p.m. – coach Circuit Training

10.20circuit

I really enjoy coaching these classes and working with the group dynamic. The circuit workout yesterday was SNEAKY hard. You should try it!

3 rounds:

500 meter row
20 kettlebell swings
20 box jumps

It takes between 11-15 minutes. You want to go pretty full-out.

7:30 p.m. – get changed in the locker room at the gym to go out

10.20socks

Isn’t this hot? I wore my Tommy Copper compression sleeves under my socks. I am obsessed with them.

7:45 p.m. – meet gym friends out for a going away happy hour. I coerce Teri from A Foodie Stays Fit to join us. She’s in town for work.

10.20burger

8:30 p.m. – Teri and I walk over to Nolen Kitchen for dinner where I inhale a burger topped with provolone and mushrooms. Sauteed brussels sprouts with pancetta on the side. My gym friends come and join us a little later and I end up laughing so hard that my stomach hurts. Good people, fun evening.

9:45 p.m. – home, eat two more cookies, feed Sullie, change, wash face, get in bed and get on the computer. I finish my story for Run Charlotte Run on rolling out the feet. Check it out.

11:15 p.m. – lights out

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Happy weekend! Another week in the books! I got three runs in (6.5 miles, 5.5 miles, 5.5 miles) and I have a trail run planned for tomorrow. Total weekly mileage will end up around 30-35 miles depending on if I go for 13 or 17 tomorrow! I’m 16 weeks out from the Golden Ultra so [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
