It’s December 10, I still haven’t started Christmas shopping and this week has passed by in the blink of an eye. Thanks for your feedback on the kitchen gift guide. The fitness/yoga version will be coming tomorrow for those of you who are on the procrastination train with me!

Here’s a little update on life lately mostly featuring life with Zoey.

12.10zoey4

Zoey is getting so big! She’s only nine weeks old and I tell her all the time to slow down her growing!

12.10zoey2

With that growing is coming a lot of curiosity and energy. She had a great time playing with an electronic pet dog on Monday. I was almost in tears watching her. She kept grabbing it by the ear and tail and dragging it away.

The trainer came yesterday and I’m so excited about all the potential ahead of us. I love her! We’ll do in-home private sessions until Zoey has had all of her shots and then move to group classes. She brought one of Zoey’s half sisters who is four and a half months old to show a demo of what’s possible and it was amazing and inspirational.

In the meantime, Zoey is sentenced to a life being attached to mom by a three foot leash. The trainer recommended this to get her housebroken, used to the leash and for me to be able to watch her every move and correct her on the spot.

She slept for three hours in her crate with no protest after the trainer left. The trainer stressed the importance for her to be both physically and mentally exhausted. It’s going to be a long road but well worth it! 🙂

12.10redvelvet

When I’m not watching Zoey like a hawk, I’ve been baking cupcakes. Red velvet from scratch with cream cheese frosting. I think this was my favorite red velvet recipe I have ever tried!

12.10emily

I was very grateful to have blog reader and Emily in class at Charlotte Yoga last week. Emily lives in Seattle but was in the Charlotte area visiting family and made a special trip to take my class. Connecting with readers is one of the BEST THINGS about blogging and meeting Emily totally made my day! She’s a fellow runner and yogi and I loved hearing about all of her running accomplishments including running over 5 marathons including qualifying for and running Boston.

12.10yogashoot

Finally, we wrapped shooting today for my yoga book. YAY! Photography for this book has been a quite a process and this was our fourth shoot. We had about 25 shots to take with male talent and it went really well. All that’s left now is for my nose to meet the grindstone to finish the copy for the book. It’s a little labor intensive because I have to physically perform each pose as I’m writing about it to be able to explain how to get into it and where to engage. January 5th can’t get here fast enough. I am ready to have this off my plate!

I’ll leave you with a few things I’ve been reading lately:

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Reading, Watching, Listening (Spring 2026 Edition)

Happy weekend! Another week in the books! I got three runs in (6.5 miles, 5.5 miles, 5.5 miles) and I have a trail run planned for tomorrow. Total weekly mileage will end up around 30-35 miles depending on if I go for 13 or 17 tomorrow! I’m 16 weeks out from the Golden Ultra so [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
