12 Days of Christmas Survey

I am all about the holiday spirit this  year. I decorated my house the weekend after Thanksgiving and I’ve just been all lights, trees and celebration every since (although I am still not done with shopping…but that’s pretty standard for me. I don’t remember the last time I wasn’t out on Christmas Eve wrapping up my shopping).

I wanted to do a little holiday survey post to share with you all of my Christmas traditions and favorites. I kind of mixed and matched a bunch of questions I found from random blog holiday surveys to make a 12 days of Christmas 12-question survey.

Favorite Christmas movie?

elfWhen I was younger I went crazy for the cartoon version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. In my adulthood, I’ve become especially fond of Elf and it’s now an annual tradition. (I’m watching it right now!)

Favorite Christmas Song?

For whatever reason, I have always loved Carol of the Bells. I actually just love an choir-style Christmas music in general. The Morman Tabernacle Choir Christmas Pandora station is my favorite.

White or colored lights?

When I was younger we did colored lights…and not just colored but also bubble lights and tinsel. These days I go more for white lights but I will always have a soft spot in my heart for those bubble lights. (Did anyone else love them as much as me!?)

Christmas Eve traditions?

12.24dinner

We do a nice sit down dinner on Christmas Eve and for as long as I can remember it’s been prime rib (on my dad’s Big Green Egg), twice baked potatoes and popovers. We do not open gifts on Christmas eve!

How did Santa deliver gifts?

When I was growing up we always had to wait in our bedrooms until my parents told us we could come out. My dad had a fire going and all of our Santa presents were arranged around the fireplace with our stockings. They weren’t wrapped. Santa always brought our big ticket items like bikes and X-boxes.

Christmas Day traditions?

After doing our family Christmas at home we would always go to my grandmother’s house to celebrate with her and my extended family. These days, we just meet at my grandmother’s house and do Christmas Eve and Christmas Day there. I cannot wait to see her in just a few days!!! 🙂

Our routine is to have spread of Christmas sweets and appetizers out on the table. My grandmother has our stockings arranged on the steps. My grandmother and I have been trading the same gift bag back and forth for over 10 years (see it on step above). We do presents and snack and then hang out together for a couple hours before enjoying Christmas dinner.

Favorite Christmas cookie?

How do you pick just one? I love them all! If I had to pick I’d say I love thumbprint cookies with jam and the traditional peanut butter blossoms.

Favorite Christmas candy?

There better be a Reese’s tree in my stocking…that’s all I’m saying. (Or a box of Godiva truffles!) 🙂

Eggnog…yes or no?

YES! I’ve loved it since childhood!

White elephant exchanges…love them or hate them?

I LOVE WHITE ELEPHANTS! They especially appeal to my (slightly) competitive nature. 😉 Today I received the ultimate white elephant perfection gift…bacon bowls!

Do you send Christmas cards?

Not recently but I do make a mean Christmas calendar for my grandmother! 🙂

What do you want for Christmas this year?

To spend time with my family, rest, relax and re-focus for a happy and amazing 2015!!!

Your turn! Tell me about your holiday traditions. Answer any of the questions above!

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Happy weekend! Another week in the books! I got three runs in (6.5 miles, 5.5 miles, 5.5 miles) and I have a trail run planned for tomorrow. Total weekly mileage will end up around 30-35 miles depending on if I go for 13 or 17 tomorrow! I’m 16 weeks out from the Golden Ultra so [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
