Easter + Weekly Workouts

Hi! I hope everyone had a very happy Easter! I had a good day but I always really miss my parents and my grandmother on this day.

I’ve taught yoga on Easter morning for the last four years in a row. As I shared recently, I’ve been feeling ready to give up Sunday morning “yoga church” but this morning was…perfect. For whatever reason, I feel more myself in this class than any other. It feels like we’re just hanging out for 90 minutes. I teach exactly how and what I want to teach and feel so comfortable sharing whatever it is that is on my heart or in my head. There is just so much connection.

The last two Sundays I have taught this class, I went into it with the attitude I was going to give it up but the classes made me wonder how I could possibly do it. This class pushes and challenges me as a teacher, in all the best ways. I am torn.

I came home after class to find some Easter treats. Reeses + Cadburry Eggs + Easter = yes.

easterbrunch

I made a simple but really delicious brunch of scrambled eggs with goat cheese, uncured baked bacon, cinnamon chip scones and citrus. French press coffee on the side. I don’t know how I went so many years without French pressing my own coffee. Game changer.

The rest of my day consisted of getting sucked into the vortex of website updates (I start with one minor change and then go down the rabbit hole…), practicing yoga and girlfriend time with my BFF.

And now for a quick recap of my weekly workouts.

Monday

Hot yoga

Tuesday

5 mile run

Wednesday

Hot yoga (kinda)

I was not feeling well and thought that moving around a bit would help (ladies, you know what I mean)…it did not. I spent most of practice in child’s pose or on my back in gentle twists.

Thursday

Hot yoga

Friday

4.5 mile run + CrossFit & lift

I ran 1.8 miles to the gym and then decided to do the WOD on the whiteboard. It was 50 pullups and 50 back squats at bodyweight. The instructions were to do pull ups and then do the same number of back squats until you reached 50. I did them in sets of five (kipping pull ups) and back squats at 115. I do high-rep back squats on the regular at 75-85 pounds but the 115 was a big challenge. I could feel with every one exactly where I would be sore…and was I ever sore. Good lord. Haven’t squatted that heavy at that volume in a long time.

After the WOD (took 10:45), I did 50 GHD sit ups, 50 bicep curls, 50 strict dumbbell press and 50 tricep overhead extensions. (I did this in 5 rounds of 10.)

And then I had to run home…I ran the long way and ended up at 4.5 miles total. My legs felt like jello for the first half a mile but the run ended up being nice recovery.

Saturday

6 mile hike

Sunday

Hot yoga

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
