A round-up of my favorite feel good foods from ALDI with snack ideas featuring organic and natural products like nuts, cheeses, fruits, chia pudding and more.

I think I can safely say that most of us around here are living an “on-the-go” lifestyle. Whether you’re a student facing long days on campus, a busy mom with little time to make meals for yourself, a professional balancing work, working out and life outside of the office or a fellow fitness professional, most of us are eating at least one meal a day and snacks on the go.

I firmly believe that a big part of feeling your best is about eating foods that make you feel good. As I’ve discussed before on my blog, it’s usually easier to make good, nutritious food choices at home than it is when you’re at school, work, out running errands or traveling. One of the places that I look to for budget-friendly feel good finds is ALDI. They offer a variety of both core products and Special Buys that meet my feel good food standards. The very BEST news is that ALDI recently removed all certified synthetic colors, partially hydrogenated oils and added MSG from all ALDI-exclusive foods.

ALDIfeelgoodfood

Currently you can find all sorts of Special Buys at ALDI for many of these feel good foods. When I visited my local ALDI I found everything from goji berries to steel cut oats to chia superfruit squeezables in the Special Buys as well as tons of other everyday core items like coconut oil, all kinds of nuts at incredible prices, huge bags of organic kale and other greens, ALL the avocados, grass-fed beef, natural nut butters and more. And many are organic and/or gluten-free! It seems like every time I visit ALDI there are more and more healthier and organic options!

Today I’m sharing some of my favorite feel good “on-the-go” foods for breakfast, pre- or post-gym snacking, car meals, desk staples and emergency snacks. Everything you see here can be found at your local ALDI. Be sure to read to the end for a gift certificate giveaway.

BREAKFAST OR PRE-/POST-GYM

ChiaPudding

Chia pudding is a simple breakfast that you can make the night before to enjoy post-workout or once you get to your desk. I admit that I wasn’t a fan until my recent Whole30 when I gave it another go.

ChiaPuddingPrep

Creamy coconut milk or homemade almond milk along with mashed banana for natural sweetness makes all the difference here! Get creative with your toppings. Check out my recipe in this post.

10.17smoothie

Smoothies! (You totally saw that coming, right?) They are so easy to throw in the blender before you walk out the door and easy to drink in the car during commutes to work.

frozenfruit

One of my all-time favorite smoothie combinations is a cup of frozen berries, a frozen banana, a spoonful of peanut or almond butter (or a scoop of protein powder…or both!), almond milk, plain Greek yogurt, a date if you want some extra sweetness and spinach if you want to add some green. Easy, filling and delicious! I have a whole page dedicated to smoothies so be sure to check it out for inspiration.

EMERGENCY CAR/BAG SNACKS

nutsandfruit

Dried fruit and nuts.

driedfruitandnuts

These freeze-dried apples are great and the only ingredient is apples! And you can never go wrong with dates and almonds. Mix and match nuts and dried fruits to meet your preference but I highly encourage you to read labels and watch out for added sugar in the fruit! I love dates because they’re sweet and delicious just how they are. Nature’s candy, right?

superfruitsqueeze

If you don’t have time or forget to make your own chia pudding, try the ready-made SimplyNature Organic Chia Strawberry Banana Superfruit Squeezies, available at ALDI. The ingredients list is super clean and they have only 10 grams of sugar (with none of it coming from added sugar…just from the fruit).

ALDIsqueezables

They also have SimplyNature Organic Chia Blackberry Superfruit Squeezies as well as SimplyNature Kids Organic Applesauce and miscellaneous fruit squeezies.

THINGS TO PACK IN YOUR LUNCHBOX

figsandcheese

I love fresh figs and cheese. This combo of Turkish figs and cranberry white cheddar is perfect.

tunaandguac

Crackers (love these sea salt pita crackers) along with canned tuna (or chicken if you are eating this in an office environment) mixed with guacamole or mashed avocado.

tunaandguacandavo

Guac or mashed avocados are one of my favorite mayo replacements in chicken or tuna salad. Also good with a dollop of plain Greek yogurt, some chopped nuts and a dash of hot sauce but none of that is necessary!

HYDRATION

lacroixataldi

I almost squealed in delight when I spotted La Croix at ALDI. We’re lucky if a case lasts two days in our house.

lacroixcans

There’s something about adding bubbles to your water that makes it feel much more refreshing. These are great for an afternoon pick-me-up or for post-workout hydration.

Want to check out these ALDI products for yourself? I’m giving away a $50 gift certificate to one reader. If you’d like to be entered for a chance to win, leave a comment telling me what  your “Feel Good Foods” are. Giveaway ends Wednesday, February 3 at midnight EST. U.S. readers only. Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Happy weekend! Another week in the books! I got three runs in (6.5 miles, 5.5 miles, 5.5 miles) and I have a trail run planned for tomorrow. Total weekly mileage will end up around 30-35 miles depending on if I go for 13 or 17 tomorrow! I’m 16 weeks out from the Golden Ultra so [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
