I’m assisting in leading our studio’s 200-hour teacher training this winter/spring. Our training takes place over the course of 8 weekends where we meet Friday evenings, all day Saturday and all day Sunday. Here is a “weekend in the life” look at what those are like for me.

Friday 3:40 p.m. – meet my fiance for a quick run before I teach at 4:20. We discuss our game plan for leading teacher training this weekend. It’s weekend #5 of 8 and we are solo. Johnna, our other co-leader, is out of the country for a few weeks.

Friday 4:20 p.m. – teach hot yoga at Y2

Friday 5:30 p.m. – clean the room, shower, change and get ready to teach again

Friday 6 p.m. – lead the Teacher Trainees through a one hour power practice. Message/class theme was from one of my favorite readings of all-time, You Are Not Broken.

Friday 7:45 p.m. – circle up with the TTs after everyone showers and grabs food. We have a check-in and discuss the book “Ask and it is Given.”  I snack on tuna avocado spring rolls from Namastay Kitchen while we chat.

Friday 9 p.m. – it’s a wrap

Friday 9:15 p.m. – arrive home, reheat leftover pot roast and cauliflower rice and review materials for tomorrow’s training.

Friday 9:45 p.m. – couch and an episode of The Walking Dead

Friday 10:45 p.m. – read for a few minutes and then lights out

Saturday 6:45 a.m. – rise and shine

Saturday 7 a.m. – sit down with coffee and breakfast and make notes on what I want to teach the trainees in our morning session

Saturday 8 a.m. – I have the trainees solo and we go over teaching voices and different types of cueing.

Saturday 9:15 a.m. – break. I head to the gym while they head off to practice.

Saturday 11 a.m. – back at the studio and put together a playlist for my 11:15 a.m. class

Saturday 11:15 a.m. – teach hot yoga

Saturday 12:45 p.m. – head home for shower and lunch while my fiance goes over anatomy with the trainees

Saturday 2:15 p.m. – back at the studio. We wrap up the anatomy lesson and go over warm up sequences that they had to put together over their lunch break.

Saturday 3-5 p.m. – trainees break off into groups and practice teach their warm up sequences for 20 minutes each with a 10 minute feedback session after. Three people in each group do this Saturday and three will go Sunday.

Saturday 5 p.m. – regroup and go over practice teaching thoughts and feedback. Their final assignment of the day is to write a note to a teacher that has been meaningful/special to them to thank them (now that they’re seeing the other side!).

Saturday 5:30 p.m. – wrap for the day

Saturday 6 p.m. – last minute massage opening at the studio so I grab it!

Saturday 7:15 p.m. – run in the grocery to get a few things

Saturday 7:45 p.m. – home, shower, prep dinner. Try to make homemade mayonnaise and fail epically.

Saturday 9 p.m. – eat dinner. I made turkey burgers mixed with guacamole, salsa and Dizzy Pig Fajita-ish and top them with more guac and salsa. Served in a kale wrap. Roasted cauliflower and acorn squash on the side.

Saturday 9:30 p.m. – sit down to watch another episode of The Walking Dead. I still can’t believe I’m so into this show. When I first started watching it I had reoccurring nightmares about zombies!

Towards the end of The Walking Dead Sullie hops onto the couch. In her nearly 10 years of life she’s never gotten on the couch old but a few weeks ago she decided that she was going to start making nightly visits. It’s so funny. One minute we’re sitting there and the next we are covered in golden retriever. She likes to get close and lay on top of us. She doesn’t get on the couch any other time, just to visit late at night. I kind of love it and will never make her stop.

Saturday 10:45 p.m. – read in bed and then lights out

Sunday 7:30 a.m. – alarm goes off but I’m feeling the time change. Snooze in bed until 8:30 a.m. My fiance had the trainees this morning for an ashtanga practice.

Sunday 8:30 a.m. – breakfast, smoothie and coffee, feed dogs, dishes, etc.

Sunday 10:15 a.m. – get ready to head to the studio

Sunday 10:45 a.m. – arrive at studio. In our 10:30-1:30 session we cover anatomy, nutrition and class sequencing.

Sunday 1:30 p.m. – Head home for lunch break, visit with the girls, laundry/straightening up and finish this post.

Head back to TT at 3 p.m. until 4 when I switch off with my fiance and leave to teach my 4 p.m. hot class. Wrap up TT at 6 p.m. and then home to enjoy the longer daylight! I’ll either do an easy 3 miler or just walk with the girls. We have a going away party for a friend and former teacher training graduate but I’m not sure if we’ll go since it’s been such a long weekend. Also, my Monday starts at 5:30 a.m. with three clients in a row followed by teaching yoga.

I’ll either make dinner or get really crazy and order in using Postmates. We are always so drained (in the best way) after these weekends. (Side note: don’t forget you can get  $10 off your first Postmates delivery with the code peanutbr8.)

Updated at 8:23 p.m. – I got sucked into putting out new Lululemon we just got in and rearranging our retail area until 7 p.m. By the time I got home the only thing I had energy for was sitting down and a glass of wine. I was delusional to think there was a chance of running. 😛 

While I LOVE teacher training weekends, I’m glad they’re not every weekend. It’s a ton to pack into a weekend on top of all the other normal life and work stuff there is to be done but I’m so grateful for the opportunity to be involved and to lead others through this amazing journey. <3

I finished with a set of leg press to failure, which was only 40 before I said “stick a fork in me, I’m done.” This workout was tough and I was proud of programming it for myself.
