The weekend kicked off our 200-hour summer teacher training at Y2. It seems like we just wrapped up our winter/spring training. It’s our first year offering a summer training but there has been a demand for it, especially among high school and college students that want to complete a teacher training during their summer break.

We met on Friday night for our first practice and introductions.

Y2 Yoga Teacher Training

And then spent all weekend diving into teacher training! So much good stuff went down on the first weekend…meditation practice, practice teaching Sun Salutation A and B, practice assisting Sun Salutation A and B, watched Ashtanga New York, yoga nidra meditation, listened to Spirit of the Vedas and much, much more. It was awesome! 🙂

Y2 Yoga Class

On Saturday morning I took our 9:30 a.m. hot flow class along with the teacher trainees and a bunch of other yogis. It was hot, hot, hot! I taught my 11:15 a.m. after and had an equally as packed room. It always makes me so happy to see people keep showing up during the summer months!

Namastay Kitchen Remix Salad

After meditation, taking and teaching, I needed food ASAP! I had the remix salad from Namastay Kitchen, add avocado and chicken with our coconut milk vegan ranch. So good.

After we wrapped up training I stopped into Marshall’s “just to look around.” I ended up trying on a bunch of stuff but leaving with two tops and some sandals.

Golden Retriever

When I got home we walked the dogs over to a field in our neighborhood to run around. It was Sullie’s first post-surgery exercise (and approved by her doctor).

Golden Retriever with Ball

Zoey went crazy running after her ball.

6.6girls

So much so that she spent a good 5 minutes laying down and drinking water when we got home. We’d never seen her do that before and it was so funny. Guess she ran so hard that she didn’t have energy to stand! (Sullie doesn’t do much running much days. She mostly wanders around, smells things and rolls in the grass when we go to the park but she does LOVE to go on walks.)

We went out for dinner at one of our favorite spots on Saturday night, Foxcroft Wine Co.

Grilled Okra at Foxcroft Wine Co

We shared the grilled okra with chipotle aioli to start. Check out my roasted okra with Sriracha aioli recipe.

Foxcroft Wine Co

I had the chef’s special for my entree. It was a black sea bass over crispy chorizo grits with a tomato sauce.

Steak Tartare at Foxcroft Wine Co

And my fiancé had the steak tartare with a local duck egg on top.

Carrot Cake

We wrapped up the night on the couch where I enjoyed a slice of carrot cake with a mug of hot tea and he made me endure the movie 10 Cloverfield Lane. HOLY NAIL BIGHTER! I think I said, “I can’t watch this. I need to go to bed.” at least 10 times. John Goodman was seriously creepy in this movie.

Yoga Forward Fold Drill

Sunday was another day full of yoga. I spent a few hours with the teacher trainees before getting a massage and then teaching my Sunday 4 p.m. class. We took a break after the warm up to talk about forward folds (we had just covered it in TT!). I had my students do a forward fold drill against the wall where you back heels and hips all the way up to the walls so you can experience what it’s really like to get the hips over the ankles. We also talked about when to straighten and when to bend the knees and a few other things.

The weekend wrapped up with some cleaning, laundry and hanging out on the patio and grilling dinner.

Tell me about your weekend! What was the highlight? Did you watch any movies? Best thing you ate? Did you spend time outside?
