Good morning!

6.16bday

Today is my birthday and I kicked it by teaching yoga at 6 a.m. (just like last year!). My students sang the birthday song to me during backbends so that was sweet. Also sweet was my fiance who surprised me at the end of class by delivering three dozen roses, three balloons and three magazines to celebrate my 33rd birthday! 🙂

Last year my mom and dad got me a new pair of running shoes for my birthday.

Newton Fate

I had been running in Mizuno Wave Elixirs for a couple of years when they got discontinued. I had a really hard time finding a replacement for them until I discovered Newton Fates at a running store in Florida. I’ve now spent a whole year running in Newtons so I thought I’d give you an update AND give away a pair! (It’s fun to give gifts on your birthday too!)

In short, I love my Newtons! I’ve put a ton of miles on them between half marathon training last fall and all of my everyday runs. They’ve been nothing but comfortable and supportive for me. I’ve had no issues with the shoes and no injuries in them! The Newton Fate is a neutral running shoe that’s designed to enhance your everyday runs. One of the things I appreciate most about my Newtons is a low heel to toe drop. So many shoes have become super thick, cushioned and clunky with high heel heights. Newtons are designed to help you run in a more natural position.

The most differentiating thing about Newton Running shoes is their proprietary Action/Reaction Technology. You’ll notice “lugs” across the forefoot of the Fate. The active movement of the lugs helps the Action/Reaction Technology to create a responsive, trampoline-like cushioning system that provides quicker bounce-back and loses less energy than a traditional foam-core running shoe. (This is the description from Newton’s site…I don’t speak running shoe tech talk!)

The lugs definitely provide a different feel for your runs but I quickly got used to them.

Earlier this year Newton sent me a new pair of Fates in a lovely mint green color (<– this link has the mint green, pink and a light blue color!). Newton is known for their colorful shoe designs. I have been running in the updated Fates for a few months now and I love them just as much as the previous model.

They also sent me the Gravity V to test out. It’s also a neutral running shoe for daily running but is also designed to function well for tempo runs and races. It’s very lightweight, breathable and flexible. I’ve been mixing it in for some of my runs and treadmill speed sessions. I find that the Gravity is a more ideal shoe for me to wear to the gym when I’m going to be running and strength training in the same workout.

I am totally on Team Newton Running now. It’s so tough for me to find running shoes that I really love and I’m so happy to have discovered Newton!

I’m excited to partner with Newton to give away one pair of Newton Fates to a lucky reader! If you’d like to enter to win, just leave a comment telling me why you love to run! 🙂

You have until Sunday at midnight EST to enter. I’ll announce the winner on Monday. U.S. only. One entry per person.

Have a great day! And happy running!
