I kicked off the new month with a bang. I popped out of bed at 5:40 a.m. today and announced to Tanner, “it’s YOGA time!” and I took his 6 a.m. class. For years and years, 6 a.m. classes were my go-to’s but over the last couple of years I have gotten out of the habit. Although I teach two of them every week, I can’t tell you the last time I took one…until this morning. It felt wonderful and was the best start to the week and the new month.

7.31summercamp

We had such a nice weekend. Golden retriever summer camp is in full swing over here and these three are making me smile constantly.

7.31bear

Bear has been the best addition to our little furry family and he’s incredibly easygoing and laid back. He’s sleeping on my feet under my desk as I type this post. He’s a big ball of love. My favorite is when we get home. He always brings us a toy and gets so excited that he whines. I posted a video on SnapChat this morning (there are lots of dog videos on my SnapChat…ha!) so head over there to check it out. My username is jendecurtins.

7.31zoeybear

Sullie has been overall very welcoming of Bear and Zoey has loved having a new play partner. In this photo she was creeping while Bear chewed on a bone.

7.31zoeybear2

We’re having so much fun. I’m happy we have one more week of Bear!

7.31takeout

Okay, on to non-dog related weekend stuff. We had teacher training on Friday night so Tanner brought home sushi from Namastay Kitchen after it wrapped up. We divided and conquered and I taught the teacher trainees a power class and he did a movie and discussion with them after while I headed home to unwind and relax.

7.31greensmoothie

I got up early on Saturday morning with a mission to hit the farmers market right when it opened. This time of year the market is so busy that if you don’t get there early, you run the risk of missing out on some things…especially eggs! I made a green smoothie for breakfast with spinach, almond milk, cashew butter, frozen banana, frozen strawberries, frozen peaches and Premier Protein Vanilla Milkshake Protein Powder.

7.31okra

The market was one of the best of the year. I came home with so many goodies.

7.31eggplant2

My haul included eggplant, tomatoes (several varieties), Chinese long beans, cucumbers, okra, peaches, blackberries, squash, eggs, chicken thighs, beef short ribs, garlic, purple cabbage, spaghetti squash and…

7.31applefritter

An apple fritter! There is a new vendor in Building C, Carolina Doughnuts, that brings an amazing spread of donuts to the market every Saturday. I was there early enough to snag an apple fritter this time! Second breakfast is always a good idea.

7.31summersalad

After the market I headed over to the studio to teach and take. I had our summer salad afterwards (arugula, candied walnuts, dried cranberries, apples, shredded cabbage, strawberries, maple mustard dressing…add avocado…always) and then hung out in teacher training for the rest of the afternoon.

7.31party

I got dressed up on Saturday night to go out to a friend’s housewarming party. I just got this tie-dye deep-cut racerback tank at a little beach boutique with Dorie. It’s so soft and comfortable but I can’t find it online! The brand is Bear Dance and they have a lot of cute stuff on Amazon. It seems that their website is wholesale only. (Which means maybe I should order it for the studio!) I wore a red lace bralette under it for a pop of color. (The bralette I am wearing isn’t available online…my friend Lina brought it back for me from Colombia but this one is similar and I actually think I’m going to order the padded version of it!)

7.31brunchprep

We slept until 9 on Sunday and then I made us brunch.

7.31brunch

We had my scrambled egg, avocado and sauerkraut toast with the eggs I bought at the farmers market. Bacon, sliced tomatoes and fruit on the side.

7.31eggplant

The rest of the day included blog writing, the gym, teaching yoga, grocery store and general “getting geared up for the week ahead” kind of stuff. I made a delicious meatless dinner to wrap up the weekend. Eggplant parmesan with homemade marinara over spaghetti squash. I’ll share the eggplant recipe soon! 🙂

I hope your August is off to a great start!

Did you visit the farmers market last weekend? If so, what did you get?

Any desserts, donuts or other delicious food over the weekend?

What did you do this weekend?

Potato and Broccoli Cheddar Soup

Potato and Broccoli Cheddar Soup

This potato and broccoli cheddar soup is a warm hug in a bowl. It’s a mash up of potato soup meets broccoli cheddar soup, and makes for a creamy, hearty and cheesy bowl that has just enough broccoli in it to make you feel like you’re getting your veggies in for a complete meal. POTATO [...]
