A Low-Key Labor Day Weekend

I really appreciate the IG, FB and comment love on my “Labor Day Lessons” post. Also, thanks for being so supportive of me opening up and sharing these types of posts here in this space. I really believe that living a healthy lifestyle isn’t just about eating healthy and working out but also taking care of ourselves on a deeper level. Y’all are the best. <3

Our Labor Day weekend was super relaxed but perfect. The weather was incredible…the first break in heat we’ve had all summer. Here’s a big photo dump of mostly normal life kind of weekend stuff, most from my iPhone.

9.6camcar

It rained all day on Friday as Hermine moved through but I didn’t mind the rainy day. It brought the temperatures down and just felt kind of nice and cozy. I went to Metro to workout before teaching my 4:20p class at Y2 and spotted this jeep decked out in Panthers colors with a “DABCAM” license plate. My mind immediately went to, “OMG…Cam is working out at Metro!” And then I walked past the car and saw a bumper sticker for a local Catholic school and my dream was shattered. I guess someone is quite a super fan!

9.6leftoverdinner

I got a massage at the studio after teaching and headed home. The rain made it a perfect evening for staying in. We almost ordered delivery through Postmates but I decided to do a “clean out the fridge” dinner instead. We had leftover roast chicken and the potato/veggie mix that cooked under it, sauteed shishito peppers and garlic herb mushrooms.

9.6zoeypaw

Zoey was happy we decided to stay in. She likes to lay at my feet when I’m in the kitchen and on Friday night she was so sweet and “holding” my ankle while resting her head on my foot.

9.6eggsfruitbreakfast

I woke up around 7:30 on Saturday morning and made a quick breakfast of scrambled eggs, a sliced peach and a paleo banana muffin with almond butter before heading off to meet my friend Dorie for a yoga class.

I made this video montage with scenes from class because we’re celebrating our 7 year anniversary this month!

9.6remixsalad

I taught my 11:15 a.m. class after taking and then had lunch with Tanner at Namastay Kitchen. I had our remix salad, add avocado and chicken breast with maple mustard dressing and tahini balsamic.

9.6sunflour

I may have brought up my desire for a sweet treat at lunch so Tanner suggested a Sunflour date.

9.6cupcakestray

Saturdays at Sunflour are kind of becoming a thing. I think this was my third Saturday in a row! 🙂

9.6cupcakes

We split three cupcakes and a chocolate dipped macaroon.

9.6pbcupcake

The two chocolate cupcakes we got were crazy moist and really delicious. This one was chocolate peanut butter with peanut butter filling and the other chocolate cupcake was a reverse rolo with caramel frosting and salted caramel filling. SO GOOD.

9.6walk

We bummed around the house for most of the afternoon before taking off on an “urban hike.” I told Tanner that I wanted to do a really long walk and mapped out a 6 mile route. The weather was amazing…high 70s and low humidity. The girls loved our walk (we packed water for them) and so did we. We walked for about an hour and a half.

9.6beer

We had a beer on the back deck after the walk and talked about going out somewhere for a movie or dinner but decided to keep bumming and stay in instead.

9.6meatballs

We watched Money Monster with George Clooney and I made this dinner concoction with leftover pesto meatballs, massaged kale, couscous and parm.

9.6sunbrunch

Tanner requested avocado, sauerkraut, scrambled egg toast for Sunday brunch.

9.6yclasses

I spent all afternoon teaching. HIIT and Total Strength at the Dowd Y and then a hot flow at Y2 after.

9.6movie

We went to a movie on Sunday night. We saw Don’t Think Twice at the Manor Theatre and I LOVED IT! It was one of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time. It just felt really real…both the situation that the characters navigated their way through in the movie and their emotions about it. So glad we decided to see this movie.

9.6eggbowl

One of the things I dislike most about going out to movies in the evening is negotiating the time and dinner. If you go to a 7 p.m. movie, it’s too early to eat before (for me) and it’s too late to eat after (especially on a Sunday night when so many things aren’t open or close early). I came home and made a random bowl of arugula, couscous and quinoa, half an avocado and a runny egg.

9.6slide

On Labor Day Tanner and I both had to teach, me at 8:15 and him at 9:30 so we took each other’s classes, grabbed lunch and then hit the Y for a couple hours of pool time.

9.6truffle

I brought a change of clothes with me to the Y and decided to stop by SouthPark Mall for a bit to return and exchange a few things and to buy some back to school outfits for my nieces. I can’t go to the mall without stopping in Godiva for a truffle.

9.6lulubra

Of course I got distracted by Lululemon. I wasn’t going to go in and then I thought, “oh I’ll just say hi to everyone and see if they have any markdowns.” I ended up with the new Free To Be Zen Brathese pink speed shorts (on markdown!) and a new Define Jacket in gray. It’s so soft. I got it on an awesome markdown in-store but I’m not seeing it marked down online. Maybe it was marked because it was a one-off or something. Also important to note, if you are a yoga teacher, trainer or group ex instructor you can get a 15% discount at Lulu…and they give it to you on sale items!

9.6lulu

The best part about my Lulu trip was running into Tanner. We NEVER go to the mall and for both of us to end up there at the same time was too funny. He stayed at the Y to workout after the pool and he had no idea I’d be there.

9.6outfits

My main mission was to get new school outfits for my nieces and that was accomplished at GAP Kids where they had a) the cutest clothes ever and b) a 40% markdown on everything for Labor Day. I thought I would cry some tears over the matching sparkly shoes.

I never go to the mall and I really enjoyed having nowhere to be and just wandering around. I also got a few new makeup things at Sephora.

9.6roastedpan

The weekend ended with our favorite one pan roasted veggie dinner and watching Parenthood on the couch.

And that’s that. Nothing crazy exciting but just a really nice weekend.

I’d love to hear about your Labor Day! Did you travel or staycation? Were you able to relax and not work?

How often do you go to the mall? Favorite store? I was totally supposed to be looking for “real clothes” and ended up at Lulu instead. Story of my life.

Potato and Broccoli Cheddar Soup

Potato and Broccoli Cheddar Soup

This potato and broccoli cheddar soup is a warm hug in a bowl. It’s a mash up of potato soup meets broccoli cheddar soup, and makes for a creamy, hearty and cheesy bowl that has just enough broccoli in it to make you feel like you’re getting your veggies in for a complete meal. POTATO [...]
