Updating My Fall Wardrobe on a Budget

This post is sponsored by thredUP, an awesome online resource for secondhand fashion. Be sure to read to the end of the post for a code to receive 40% off your first thredUP order!

I made a decision a few weeks ago that I’m getting it together this fall. September 24 marked five years since I traded suits for spandex and holy cow does my wardrobe ever need a serious updating. Luckily, the opportunity to try thredUP, an online resource for secondhand fashion, came at just the right time.

While I won’t ever complain about my current work wardrobe, I can go days (and days) without putting on “real” clothes, blow drying my hair and putting on makeup. It’s seriously a great problem to have but it just makes me feel a little frumpy sometimes. I am that girl that shows up at almost everything (including happy hours, events, dinners, friend get togethers, etc) in athleisure.

Things really got serious when I realized that I’ve been wearing the same outfits over and over for years and I honestly don’t even know what’s in style anymore. There was one day where I legit Googled, “Are boot cut jeans in style 2016.” I was thrilled to learn that they were and I pulled out some of my old jeans from college…11 years ago.

ThredUp Review

I’ve gotten a good start on updating my wardrobe with thredUP. It’s like an online consignment store and they carry women’s and kids’ apparel and accessories. Everything is high-quality, like new and priced up to 90% off the original retail price. You can find brands like J. Crew, Madewell, Zara, Banana Republic, BCBG, Paige, Topshop and Free People just to name a few. They also have kids clothing as well as maternity.

ThredUp Online Consignment Review

I spent at least two hours combing through the site on my first shopping trip. There is so much to choose from and I couldn’t get over how affordable everything was. Apparently, thredUP customers have saved $40 million by shopping thredUP instead of retail.

The selection that thredUP offers can be overwhelming but it’s easy to find what you want without digging. You can search for your brand preference and also toggle by size and color.

And if you’re wondering where all the clothes and accessories come from, well…from women just like us! If you have clothes you no longer wear, you can order a thredUP Clean Out Bag, fill it up (consult their website to see what they take and what the payout is), and place it on your front door for pick up. It literally could not be easier to get rid of the things you no longer want in a responsible way.

ThredUp Review

I was so excited when the polka dot thredUP box arrived on my doorstep full of the clothes and shoes that I ordered.

My experience with ThredUp

The unboxing experience was great because everything was packaged so nicely.

ThredUp Online Consignment for women

I was really impressed by the condition of the clothes that I received. thredUP values quality control and items with stains, tears, fading or pilling are rejected. They also make sure to curate in-season, on-trend styles.

ThredUp Review

I loved everything that I received! From the top and working clockwise…

  • J. Crew Navy Long Sleeve Pullover Sweater – originally $98, thredUP 27.99
  • J. Crew Black Short Sleeve Pullover Sweater – originally $98, thredUP $24.99
  • Torn by Ronny Kobo Tank Top – originally $160, thredUP $33.99
  • Aqua Short Sleeve Blouse – originally $145, thredUP $7.99 (that is a 94% discount y’all!)
  • Ted Baker Black Patent Pumps – originally $208, thredUP $40.99
  • Splendid Long Maxi Skirt – originally $88, thredUP $20.99
  • Theory Tank Top – originally $65, thredUP $15.99

I also got 40% off my order since it was my first so I got everything above for $141.92…which is just crazy. That means I saved $689 off the original retail prices of all the items.

ThredUp Review

I just have to reiterate how amazing the quality is. I honestly would have never known that what I received was secondhand.

ThredUp Ted Baker Pumps

The condition of these Ted Baker pumps is incredible. (A certain golden retriever whose name starts with a Z ate my last pair.)

ThredUp Shoes

No signs of wear on the heels at all.

ThredUp Brands

I also just love the idea of giving clothes a second life and think the whole upcycling trend that is happening right now is awesome and a good step in the right direction for our planet.

Wearing ThredUp

I quickly started incorporating my thredUP finds into my wardrobe. I wore the Ronny Kobo tank to an event a few weeks ago with black jeans and wedges (I wanted to wear my new Ted Baker pumps but it was a little too warm for them at this outdoor event.)

ThredUp Experience

And the blue Aqua blouse that I got for $5.87 after the discount was the deal of the century. My family complimented me on it when we went out for dinner and couldn’t believe that I got it secondhand. (My mom is now also planning to shop thredUP.)

ThredUp Purchases

Given that I spend so much time in athletic clothing for work, I sometimes find it hard to spend the money on “real” clothes. thredUP is such a great way for me to make keeping my wardrobe fresh and current affordable. I’m so happy that I had an opportunity to check out thredUP and I can safely say that I’ll be a return customer…over and over again! In fact, I did a little Sunday evening shopping on my own last night and can’t wait for the pieces above to arrive on my doorstep this week! 🙂

If you’d like to experience thredUP AND get that crazy awesome first-time shopper 40% discount, CLICK HERE and use code PBR40 to get 40% off your entire order! Valid through January 5th, 2017 for up to $50 off.

Happy shopping! 🙂

This potato and broccoli cheddar soup is a warm hug in a bowl. It’s a mash up of potato soup meets broccoli cheddar soup, and makes for a creamy, hearty and cheesy bowl that has just enough broccoli in it to make you feel like you’re getting your veggies in for a complete meal. POTATO [...]
