Weekend: 15 Miles(!!!) + Andy Grammer

Last weekend was just what I needed. The weather was incredible, I had a great long run and there was just the right mix of downtime with the puppies and social stuff with friends.

The Girl on the Train

We met some friends to see The Girl on the Train on Friday night. I read the book and really liked it so I was excited to see the movie but not expecting too much from it. I was pleasantly surprised to leave the movie thinking, “they did a really good job with that!” I felt like the movie helped me understand the female characters on a deeper level although I think they could have dialed up the character of the husband x1,000,000.

Foxcroft Wine Co

After the movie we stopped into Foxcroft Wine Co. for a light dinner and some wine. I had the fall panzanella salad with salmon. It featured beets, butternut squash and apples.

Pre-Run Breakfast

My alarm was set for 6:40 a.m. on Saturday to get my long run done. My plan was to be on the road by 7:30. Instead, I slept until 7:45 and didn’t leave until 8:30. This really put me in a time crunch as I had to teach yoga at 11:15 a.m. and was planning 15 miles. I ate a piece of toast with peanut butter, honey and banana and had a shot of espresso before the run.

Long Run

Under Armour Fly Fast Hat, Lululemon Run Swiftly Long Sleeve Tech Crew, Track & Field Store Shorts, 2XU Compression Socks, Brooks Ghost 9 Women’s Running Shoes

I played that long run mind game in my head for the first few miles. I thought, “Oh I’ll just go 8-9 this week and do 15 next week.” I’ve been battling a bit of a sore throat due to allergies for the last week or so and my stomach didn’t feel stellar from a pre-long run dinner of salad and wine. My expectations for the run were rather low but once I got into my groove around mile 5-6, I felt really good and really strong. Long runs are such a mental test.

I finished at 10:53 a.m. with just enough time to shower and change before I headed off to teach.

My goal going into this long run was to slow my pace down and to try and hold back in the beginning, keeping things as steady as possible. I averaged an 8:54 pace with negative splits! While I won’t say that I felt amazing at mile 15, I also felt that I could have knocked out a few more miles if I needed to. I took a Gu at mile 9 and that REALLY helped coming off a very long uphill. I could seriously feel the gel hit my system and it gave me just the boost I needed.

Namastay Kitchen Brunch

I wanted food STAT after I finished teaching so Tanner and I had brunch at Namastay Kitchen. Our chef was doing a salmon benedict special that was so, so good.

Golden Retriever Couch

The rest of my afternoon included lots of puppy cuddles and resting. Sullie is not allowed on the couch unless we occasionally invite her up but on Saturday she invited herself and I was fine with that! ๐Ÿ™‚

Ginger Tea with Turmeric

I have been drinking ginger tea with turmeric stirred in and it’s been the best warm, anti-inflammatory combo.

Fall Outfit

Sweater: Club Monaco via thredUP, scarf knitted by a student, Gap Jeans, Boots: Vincent Camuto via Nordstrom Rack, Bag: Kate Spade

It took a lot of willpower to get myself out of my chair and dressed for an evening out but we had fun plans so I persevered. ๐Ÿ˜‰

10-24bbq

Stop one was a friend’s 40th birthday party at Triple C Brewing. I had a beer and a plate of barbecue there. I was SO SAD that we had to leave before they cut the cake.

Andy Grammer

We had to rush off because our next stop was the Fillmore to see Andy Grammer! He’s on tour with Gavin DeGraw and they had a stop in Charlotte on Saturday. If you’ve been reading my blog for very long, you know I’m a huge Andy fan. He has been a friend of Y2 Yoga for a long time and we’ve been playing his music to our yogis for years. He has played three private concerts at Y2, the first in 2009 and the last in 2015 when he sang “Honey I’m Good” in savasana.

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Andy on multiple occasions and even traveling with him and his wife to Kiawah for a YPO retreat where Tanner taught yoga and he was the headline entertainer. Andy is a great guy who has worked extremely hard for the success that he has experienced over the last year. Did you know that he got his start as a street performer in Santa Monica?

Andy Grammer

Tanner went to high school with his manager, Ben Singer, and they reconnected after college and have been adult friends ever since. Ben’s story is equally as inspiring as Andy’s, if not even more so. He also manages Rachel Platten. It’s been so freaking cool to see it all come together for Ben this year and have both of his artists on top of the charts! ๐Ÿ™‚

It was a very fun but late night. I played DD since I was so wiped out from my long run and it was 1 a.m. by the time I got everyone home and in bed.

Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal

It got down to 39 on Saturday night so I made a big bowl of apple cinnamon oatmeal for breakfast on Sunday.

Goldlen Retrievers

And then made it a lazy day of lounging and working at home. I was really pleased that my body felt good on Sunday with no soreness or tightness from Saturday’s run.

Golden Retrievers

I taught one yoga class at 4 and then stayed to take the class after. The girls were very excited to welcome me home for the night. ๐Ÿ™‚

And that’s the end!

Did you read The Girl on the Train? Have you seen the movie? What did you think?

Any other Andy Grammer fans?

Did you do weekend brunch? If so, what did you eat?
