If there were one word to describe the last 10 days of my life, it would be EXPENSIVE.

First up, my car. Good lord. It has less than 60K miles on it but it’s been giving me a run for my money lately. First, it wouldn’t start consistently. AutoZone said I needed a new battery (side note…have you ever seen a battery in the trunk!? I didn’t even know where to find it). Then it still wouldn’t start consistently and the motor started cutting off while I was driving (terrifying). Took it to the dealership and got a new fuel sensor. While there, they informed me I needed four new tires. Ouch. My grandmother says that bad things come in threes so let’s hope I’m done with car stuff for a good long while.

Second, I’ve had laundry room and plumbing issues at the rental house I own. The plumber just made his second trip out today and we have what is hopefully a “long temporary fix” for a drain issue. I’ll eventually have to replace a bunch of drain lines under the house. Fun, fun.

What I bought at Whole Foods on the Whole30.

Third, Whole Foods always makes quite the dent in my wallet. Here’s the Whole30-friendly haul for the week.

  • Jason Body Wash with Coconut Oil
  • Organic chicken broth (love the Whole Foods brand, no sugar added!)
  • Everyone Lavender and Aloe body lotion
  • Buchi kombucha
  • Pure Intentions coffee
  • Organic lacinto kale
  • Organic red cabbage
  • Organic full fat coconut milk
  • Leeks
  • Acorn squash
  • Organic pink lady apples
  • Yellow onion
  • Tomato paste
  • Cinnamon
  • Bob’s Red Mill Sesame Seeds (FYI, this bag was so much more economical than buying a small spice jar!)
  • Organic Italian Herb tomato sauce
  • Mushrooms
  • Green pepper
  • Organic red potatoes
  • Organic boneless chicken thighs
  • Brussles sprouts
  • Housemade Italian sausage
  • Ground lamb
  • Frozen wild caught salmon
  • Plainville roast turkey breast
  • Eggs
  • Bob’s Red Mill Arrowroot Powder (cornstarch alternative)

And now we transition to the part of this post that’s called “I’m making it all okay with dog pictures.”

Does anyone else’s dog help them work? Look at those EYES!

It was a gorgeous day in Charlotte today so I took the girls to hang at the park.

Of course Zoey was “ball, ball, ball.” Her tongue kills me and look at the dirt over her eye.

Sullie’s always “mommy, mommy, mommy.”

I got my exercise in after I got home from the park with the girls. I headed out for a run and somehow ended up running almost 6 miles at a 7:54 pace. My fastest mile was a 7:37. I don’t even know where that speed came from but it felt so good. I stopped to pat two golden retrievers on my run (I just can’t help myself) and Zoey was giving me quite an inspection when I got home.

So while the expenses haven’t been fun, they’re just part of it. I’m taking it all in stride and just focusing on gratitude for the ability to be able to take care of what I need to and for pups that make me smile! 🙂

Do you find that “bad things come in threes?”

Do you ever have runs where you’re like, “where did that come from!?”

Potato and Broccoli Cheddar Soup

Potato and Broccoli Cheddar Soup

This potato and broccoli cheddar soup is a warm hug in a bowl. It’s a mash up of potato soup meets broccoli cheddar soup, and makes for a creamy, hearty and cheesy bowl that has just enough broccoli in it to make you feel like you’re getting your veggies in for a complete meal. POTATO [...]
