Weekend: Back in Yoga Teacher Training

Hello there…I hope Monday was kind to you.

Mother Teresa Quote

I shared this quote from Mother Teresa on Facebook this morning and talked about it with my 8:15a yoga class and it really helped me get the week started from a good place.

I set my alarm for 5:30a with the intention to get up and practice yoga but then I got up, made coffee and sat around my house until I had to go teach instead. I think after spending the entire weekend at the studio in teacher training, teaching and leading a workshop…I needed to not be there for a minute. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ashtanga New York

Our Friday nights are always a led Ashtanga practice followed by either a movie or a book discussion. In every teacher training we start out by watching Ashtanga, NY which is an awesome yoga documentary that follows Pattabhi Jois in his final workshop ever in New York City. He was 86 at the time. The crazy thing is that the 9/11 attacks happened while he was there. It is so moving to see how the practice brought students together to heal and try to make sense of what was happening in the world.

I would definitely recommend this film to any of my fellow yoga lovers and a fun side note is that both Gwyneth Paltrow and Willem Dafoe are in it because they were attending the workshop. Gwyneth has a lovely practice.

Three Ingredient Pancakes

Thanks to your useful tips, the three ingredient pancake went a lot better the second time around. The key was to add a tablespoon of ground flax and make them smaller versus one big pancake.

All that said, these are technically NOT Whole30 approved as the program does not advocate trying to make Whole30 versions of things like pancakes, pizza, cookies, etc. On that note, it makes me feel like chia pudding would probably fall into the same camp and unfortunately, I just don’t see myself converting to a leftover vegetables, eggs and meat kinda girl at breakfast anytime soon. So no guilt from me on the “pancakes” because let’s get real…these are so not even close to pancakes.

I’m not really sure what got into me on Saturday morning but I headed out for a run and got an idea in my head to do hill sprint repeats. They crushed me. I did 4x .3 miles up a super steep hill in a nearby neighborhood and then ran back down the hill for recovery. 1.5 mile run there and back. It was a great workout.

Namastay Kitchen

We had lunch at Namastay Kitchen after I ran and then taught class. I had a salad with salmon (and also half an avocado that came out later).

We came home for a bit while the teacher trainees were with our other teacher leader and took the girls to the park to run after the ball.

Jen DeCurtins Arm Balance Workshop

Back at the studio, I taught an arm balance and inversions workshop to the TTs and some other students. I always love teaching these workshops and we had a lot of fun.

OPI Infinite Shine

After a day full of activity, I pretty much did nothing on Saturday night. Tanner suggested going out for restaurant week and I couldn’t get excited about it because I was so tired. I took a mineral salt bath, did an enzyme mask on my face and then painted my nails. I used this enzyme mask and OPI’s Infinite Shine polish in Lincoln Park After Dark. (<– although I’m feeling a bit over darks at the moment.)

Then we ate leftovers and watched The Accountant on the couch. It was pretty amazing. I slept so well on Saturday night. I need to take more baths because I swear the mineral salts just helps my body relax so much. I used a combo of these lavender bath salts with these aches and pains salts.

Chia Pudding

I didn’t get to do my normal Sunday brunch since we had to be at the studio for teacher training but I made some fancied up chia pudding bowls.

Y2 Yoga Teacher Training

We spent three hours with the TTs going over assists for child’s pose, cat and cow and Sun Salutation A and B. Everyone is always surprised by how challenging assisting is to both learn and do. It’s a workout!

I came home for a couple hours before teaching my last class of the day. I ate a really random combo of leftover roasted red cabbage and scrambled eggs with half an avocado.

One Pan Roasted Dinner

And on Sunday night I made our favorite one pan roasted dinner and between the two of us we demolished the whole entire pan! It had 4 chicken sausages (spicy cilantro), a pound of brussles sprouts, four red potatoes and four turnips. It’s just so delicious.

I’ve now circled you back to the end of my weekend and to Monday. ๐Ÿ™‚

Did you get a good workout in this weekend?

Potato and Broccoli Cheddar Soup

This potato and broccoli cheddar soup is a warm hug in a bowl. It’s a mash up of potato soup meets broccoli cheddar soup, and makes for a creamy, hearty and cheesy bowl that has just enough broccoli in it to make you feel like you’re getting your veggies in for a complete meal. POTATO [...]
