Thanks for your slipper recommendations in yesterday’s post! I’ll be sure to let you know which ones I decide on. I feel like I have some really solid options now. 🙂

I can’t say that our weekend was especially restful or relaxing but it was fun and rewarding.

y2 yoga

Lots of this. On Friday afternoon I spent two hours with the teacher trainees lecturing on how we sequence at Y2 and doing sequencing exercises. After TT, I taught my 4:30 p.m. class with the assistance of a teacher who has been mentoring with me.

namastay kitchen mussels

I ran home to shower and then back to the studio for a dinner date at Namastay Kitchen with Tanner’s brother and sister-in-law. I started with the mussels.

9 times out of 10 the main reason I order mussels is to dip the bread in the sauce. This was my first time trying our mussels and they didn’t disappoint!

namastay kitchen gnocchi

For my entree I tried our cauliflower gnocchi with caramelized onions and peas and added salmon to it. Once again, it was my first time trying this dish and I don’t know what took me so long. It was absolutely delicious. Our chef has done such a great job with the menu at Namastay! (On a related note, I promise I’ll ask him this week how he gets such a nice sear on the salmon…I know so many of you are interested!)

My Friday was so go, go, go that I didn’t have time to pick up around the house so before I went to bed I spent an hour vacuuming the upstairs, changing sheets and folding laundry. Wild and crazy, I tell you! I just needed to go into my Saturday knowing those things were done.

I am reading a great book right now, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I’ve looked forward to getting into bed every night to read it.

greater charlotte SPCA

I was on the fence about whether to go to the farmers market on Saturday morning but a need for tomatoes and the promise of seeing puppies got me out the door. This little one captured my heart. He would wrap his paws around you and hug you while you were patting him.

greater charlotte SPCA

I am so crazy that I just Facebook messaged the SPCA because I can’t find him on Petfinder. I wanted to share the link to his adoption page with y’all but here’s hoping he got adopted on Saturday!

matthews farmers market

I’m so glad that I did go to the market because not only did I pick up some beautiful tomatoes but I found a farmer with tons of fresh figs they’d just picked off of their trees! I bought two big containers of them!

southern summer lunch

I taught yoga at 11:15 and then came home to shower and have lunch before I went back for teacher training. My lunch was all of my favorite summer things! A tomato sandwich, watermelon, blueberries and figs.

I had the TTs from 3:15-6 p.m. on Saturday and we went over all sorts of things like meaningful messing, music selection for playlists, how to effectively cue, voice quality, homework assignments and more. It was a great session!

jen eddins peanut butter runner

Saturday evening called for a long walk with Tanner and the pups and a night in. We walked for a little under an hour on the trails and the greenway and the weather was gorgeous. We are still dog sitting Bear Bundon. He goes home at the end of this week. We’ll miss this big boy!

blue apron spicy tacos

We tag teamed a Blue Apron recipe for spicy beef tacos for dinner. I added avocado and made some cilantro lime rice on the side.

We started The Boss Baby but I wasn’t feeling well so we only watched about half before heading to bed early.

smoothie bowl

Smoothie bowl Sunday morning.

homemade granola

Tanner had the TTs for the morning shift so I did some food prep and made homemade granola and kale salad for the week and also worked on some blog stuff.

I led TT from 1:30-3:30 and then taught a hot class from 4-5. After a weekend of leading others, I was ready for some solo time and to get my own workout in so I went to the Y after my class.

stair master

Okay, confession time. Tanner is a big fan of the stair master. I avoid it at all costs and I’ve always thought he was crazy. For whatever reason it seems intimidating to me and also kind of torturous just to be climbing away to nowhere. I have been working in the fitness industry for nearly 10 years and I’ve never used one…until last night.

I wasn’t feeling up to running for my warm up (stomach off, girl stuff) so I decided to try the stair master. I did 15 minutes to warm up and I can definitely say my heart rate was up and I was sweating but y’all…I kept tripping over the stairs! I’m sure people were getting a good giggle looking at me in all of my uncoordinated glory trying to put one foot in front of the other.

We’ll meet again soon. 😉

After stair mastering, I redeemed myself doing something that makes me feel strong and capable…lifting! Here’ the workout if you want to try it out on your own this week. It’s a leg/butt burner for sure.

Set 1 – repeat 3x
10 cable machine standing rows
10 cable machine standing chest press

Set 2 – repeat 3x
10 leg press
10 pulsing jump lunges (demoed in vid)

Set 3 – 3x
5 inside grip strict pull ups (demoed)
10 smith machine RDLs (demoed)

Set 4 – 3x
10 single leg squats to a bench, holding a dumbbell at chest (each leg, demoed)
15 dumbbell push press

Set 5 – 3x
10 barbell back squats to a box (bodyweight on the bar, demoed)
10 decline push ups (demoed)

FINISHER!
Set a timer for 2 minutes and do as many burpees as you can.

Tell me about your weekend! Was it low-key or active?

Did you pick up anything good at the farmers market or do any food prep?

Stair Master…love it or hate it!?

Potato and Broccoli Cheddar Soup

This potato and broccoli cheddar soup is a warm hug in a bowl. It’s a mash up of potato soup meets broccoli cheddar soup, and makes for a creamy, hearty and cheesy bowl that has just enough broccoli in it to make you feel like you’re getting your veggies in for a complete meal. POTATO [...]
