Harvey Help + Weekend Things

Hi on a Monday. I can’t stop thinking about everyone in the Houston area and what they are going through. My parents lived in Houston for a few years when I was in my early-mid 20s and it was always a city that I enjoyed visiting…and where I learned what real Mexican food should taste like. It’s been devastating to see the footage on the impact that Harvey has had on Texas and horrifying that it’s not over yet.

If you are in a position to do so, I urge you to donate to the American Red Cross to help with relief efforts. There is so much work to be done and so many people who have lost so much.

It’s always so crazy to me the paradox of how some people can be enduring the hardest times of their lives during disasters while life just goes on in other places. I definitely felt an extra dose of gratitude this weekend for the gorgeous weather we had in Charlotte and for all of the ease in my life. It’s all about perspective.

I ran an easy 5 on Friday afternoon. I wore the Newton Kismet 3 for my run. It is more of a stability shoe than the Fate. It was my first time wearing them and while I did find them to be cushy and comfortable, the Fate is still “my shoe.” I’m sure I’ll rotate these in here and there for runs and wear them to the gym!

On Friday evening we met Dorie and our friend Kari out for wine and a light dinner at Dilworth Tasting Room. The weather was so nice that we wanted to find a place where we could sit outside. I’d heard great things about Dilworth Tasting Room so we decided to check it out.

I loved the location, tucked away with a neighborhood feel.

And the patio was awesome. We were so lucky to snag a table that was tucked away in the back.

dilworth tasting room wineWe appreciated that you could pick out bottles of wine from the retail area and drink them at your table with no corkage. Dorie and I picked out a cab and a malbec. Both were really good.

Between the four of us we shared a meat and cheese plate that was also served with nuts, jam and bread as well as a roasted grape bruschetta and a flatbread.

If you’re in the Charlotte area, I would highly recommend Dilworth Tasting Room if you’re looking to grab wine and a light dinner or snack. The menu was pretty limited to bread/meat/cheese small plate kind of things.

I loved my Saturday morning! I did a wedding day yoga private with a bride and her bridesmaids! The bride requested a hot flow so she could get a good sweat and also get in a centered, present place for her big day. We had a great time.

I scooted over to the farmers market between the private and teaching at 11:15a.

After class, I went home to eat and throw on a bathing suit. I spent a couple hours at a girlfriend’s house who has a pool with a few other ladies. It was the group I used to train at 5:30 a.m. for all those years! It was good to catch up.

I was craving a sweet treat after the pool. I walked into Sunflour but I was hot and nothing was calling to me so I got the idea to go down to Elizabeth Creamery instead. Great decision! I had a scoop of cookies and cream in a waffle cone.

When I got home Tanner and I walked the girls for an hour and then got dressed for dinner.

It was a very social weekend! We met a small group at Bistro la Bon for Virginia’s 21st birthday celebration.

Look at this sweet birthday girl! I totally brought a birthday wine glass and made her drink out of it. Haha.

Tanner and I shared four small plates. From the top and clockwise…fried brussels sprouts, wild mushroom gnocchi, the best/most tender octopus ever and frito misto.

8 mile long run

And as far as Sunday goes, I taught a Y2 Strength training to four girls who are going to help me teach the classes. I also taught a hot yoga class and knocked out a long run. I did 8 again and it felt much better than last week’s 8. It was 10 degrees cooler and the humidity was so low. It makes the biggest difference! I listened to podcasts for all but the final mile so that I would keep my pace chill.

That’s all for me. Don’t forget, make a donation for Harvey relief efforts if you can and say lots of prayers for everyone in Texas.
