Race Recovery + The Rest of the Weekend

Hi and I hope the week is off to a great start for you! If you’re catching up on weekend posts, don’t miss my Friday favorites because there’s a 15% Wild Friends discount in that one that you’ll definitely want to take advantage of! Also, part one of my weekend was the Charlotte Half Marathon. You can read my race recap here.

I beelined it home after the race so that I could stand in a hot shower for 20 minutes to warm up. I’m not exaggerating! It’s my favorite way to recover from long runs and race. Feels so good. After the shower, I headed over to the studio to teach my 11:15 a.m. hot class. While I was tired from the race, it felt nice to be in the heat and walking around. Kind of helped me loosen up. (Reminder for new readers that when I teach, I don’t practice with my classes so that was not a double workout!)

Needless to say, I was starving after class. I had a salad topped with salmon and a side of french fries at Namstay Kitchen! 🙂

I stopped by Sunflour on my way home from the studio to pick up some post-race goodies. I ate the pumpkin chocolate torte that afternoon and we had to muffins the next day. The torte was chocolate cake, pumpkin cheesecake and white chocolate mousse. Yum!

I turned the UGA/Auburn game on (wahhhhhhh) and intended to lounge on the couch but ended up doing things like pulling every single thing out of our pantry and organizing instead. I seriously feel like I’m already getting a nesting kick to get our house de-cluttered and organized! I wouldn’t have wanted to focus solely on watching that football game anyway because it was SO STRESSFUL. Blah.

It took every ounce of my willpower to get myself up and dressed to go out and meet Dorie and Kari for a friend date night. Tanner has been dying to try one of the “escape rooms” and when Dorie suggested going to Escape Hour on Saturday night he was all about it. I admit I went to their FAQ section online to see how long it took and if it was more of a chill thing or if I’d have to be moving and jumping around. Luckily, it was the former and only about 60 minutes total.

We actually had a GREAT time! The idea is that they lock you in a room, we were at “Grandma’s House” and set a countdown clock for 60 minutes. You have to tear apart the room looking for clues and solve a ton of riddles and mysteries to get out. We were partnered with two other couples and thank god for their help because it took us about 50 minutes to get out of there. It was not easy!

We had dinner at Rooster’s after leaving Escape Hour. I had the duck and Tanner had the hanger steak. We shared roasted turnips and the most delicious stone-ground grits as our side items. Rooster’s never does us wrong and it was great to catch up with Dorie and Kari! The last “friend date night” we had was the weekend I first found out I was pregnant!

Needless to say I went straight to bed when we got home. I was exhausted from the day.

I woke up craving a green juice on Sunday morning so I juiced spinach, pear, grapefruit, cilantro and carrots. I also drank a cup of coffee. I’ve switched to using half regular, half decaf beans but I just can’t give up my morning cup.

Breakfast was scrambled eggs and Sunflour muffins. I split the two muffins so we could have a little of each. They were morning glory and pumpkin apple.

Knowing I was craving pasta for dinner, I figured I should probably have some vegetables for lunch. I had a salad with carrots, tomatoes, avocado, artichokes, dried cranberries and pumpkin seeds.

Annnddd then a piece of sourdough with cashew peanut butter and banana.

I taught a hot class at 4 p.m., took a class to stretch out. Be sure to check out this hip opening post-run flow I posted on my Power Yoga Flow IG page last night. After leaving the studio I swung by Whole Foods and then came home to make that pasta craving happen.

These two ingredients were the star of the show. This pasta sauce from Trader Joe’s is SO good!

I sauteed sliced mushrooms and Italian sausage and then added the sauce and cooked pasta to the pot. Tanner was at a movie with his brother and I was in my glory with pasta and the pups.

Especially since I had this box of donuts to dive into for dessert. One of our clients brought us a box of peanut butter and chocolate peanut butter donuts from Duck Donuts. I had never tried Duck Donuts before and I really like how cakey they are!

Sunday night brought another night of deep, very tired sleep with CRAZY dreams. My sleep during pregnancy has varied between insomnia (unable to fall asleep and then I sleep super lightly) or super heavy sleep with vivid dreams. I’ve always been a big dreamer but even more so in pregnancy.

Okay guys, off to the studio for our weekly management team meeting. See you tomorrow! 🙂

Have you ever tried an escape room?

What’s your favorite pasta combination?

Share one fun thing you did last weekend (or good thing you ate!).
