A Merry Weekend

Good morning and welcome Monday. Today is an exciting day because my parents finally return home from their 30-day trip. I can’t believe how much I missed being able to pick up the phone and call them. And even though I only see them every 3-4 months or so (hopefully that will be more frequently once baby is here!), I’ve missed not seeing them this time of year.

Our Christmas plans aren’t set in stone yet and I’m so tempted to pick up and head to Florida but this is such a difficult time of the year to get sub coverage for classes if you don’t plan WAY in advance and I have to teach Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas. So does Tanner…and possibly Christmas Day!

On another work related note, I’m trying to get this post done early as the remainder of my day will be dedicated to the studio. I’m teaching two classes this morning and then we have an off-site meeting this afternoon/evening for 2017 reviews and 2018 goals and strategy. I’m eager to get our marketing plan in place for next year, especially since I’ll be out on maternity leave for several months.

Okay, enough chatter. Here’s the weekend. It was a festive one with Christmas gatherings both Friday and Saturday evening.

On Friday I got dressed up for our Y2 Yoga staff holiday party. It was a really fun time! I’ll have a professional pic of Tanner and me to share hopefully tomorrow! We had this photo booth set up and I snapped this one on my iPhone.

One of our teachers owns an ad agency and generously offered the space for our party. Everyone loved it! How cool is this office!?

I was the total mom drag of the party and shut everything down around 11:30 p.m. (it was scheduled from 7-10 so you’ve gotta give me a little credit). We cleaned up and arrived home shortly after midnight. Tanner went straight to bed but I stayed up and made myself a midnight meal and read for a while to wind down.

I had a smoothie bowl to start off Saturday.

And then baked four loaves of sourdough for gifting before going to teach yoga.

I took Zoey for a post-class run and we covered a little over 4 miles. I’ve loved having her with me on runs again lately and she loves the weather this time of year.

Next stop was Tanner’s mom’s house for family Christmas. I had a slice of freshly baked sourdough with butter and avocado in the car along with a kombucha and a mandarin orange.

We arrived to find everyone huddled around a puzzle and Tanner quickly jumped in and didn’t come up for air for the next two hours until it was done. Look at that serious face!

Table set for dinner.

Dinner time! We had a stuffed pork loin, kale salad, roasted brussels sprouts and butternut squash with pecans and cranberries, cauliflower gratin and biscuits. This meal totally hit the spot for me because I was craving a good, traditional meal after all the “snacky” dinners I had last week.

After dinner we did presents.

And I attacked this plate of cookies! 🙂

It was such a great day with Tanner’s family. I’m so lucky that they’ve so warmly welcomed me into their family and are sharing our excitement over the baby. It’s so crazy to think this is our last holiday season solo.

On Sunday morning I made us big bowls of oatmeal and we spent several hours unpacking Christmas gifts, straightening up the house and working on our new living/office/den space that we’re redoing. The rug and new sectional came in last week so we’ve got that all in place but we still need to paint and figure out artwork and finishing touches.

I ended my Sunday at the studio where I taught and then took class. After class I swung by Whole Foods to grab a few things for the week. The rest of the evening was spent cooking dinner and relaxing on the couch.

I hope you guys had a great weekend! If you’re still working on Christmas shopping (like me!), don’t forget about my gift guide. It includes over 80 present ideas for almost everyone on your list!

Did you attend any holiday parties over the weekend? Were any of them themed?

What kind of progress have you made on shopping? Not started? Halfway? A few finishing touches left? Or DONE!?

Do you ever give homemade gifts (like the sourdough)? If so, what are your favorites/tried and true? Tanner’s sister made us this Friendship soup mix that looks incredible!

Potato and Broccoli Cheddar Soup

This potato and broccoli cheddar soup is a warm hug in a bowl. It’s a mash up of potato soup meets broccoli cheddar soup, and makes for a creamy, hearty and cheesy bowl that has just enough broccoli in it to make you feel like you’re getting your veggies in for a complete meal. POTATO [...]
