City Streets + City Eats

First, thank you so much for your kind and loving comments on my 27 week pregnancy post. I am humbled and grateful. Baby boy has been moving like CRAZY so I think he’s pretty happy in there. Last night I was trying to read in bed and had to keep putting my book down and looking at my belly to ask him what he was doing in there. You could see big kicks from the outside!

Second, I have another NYC trip recap for you. This one is all about the city streets and the food. I needed a few days break after that trip back to be able to write this post without turning green. Seriously. When people would ask what I ate at lunch before I got sick, my response was “I can’t talk about it.” The thought would literally turn my stomach.

nyc walking

One of my favorite things about NYC is walking. Even though it was pretty cold while I was there, I bundled up and walked everywhere. So thankful to Under Armour for all the cold weather gear they gave me while I was in Oregon last fall. I’ve gotten SO much use out of it. This beanie is my favorite and I wear it all the time. And I’ve already sung the praises of this jacket. It’s so warm and so wind-resistant. Currently on sale $50 off!

nyc sunset

I left the BlogHer Health conference around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday with plans to walk around, catch a yoga class and grab dinner to bring back to my hotel room.

georgetown cupcake

My first stop was Georgetown Cupcake. I got two cupcakes, chocolate birthday cake and salted caramel, boxed up and stuck them in my backpack before heading to yoga.

saluggi's pizza nyc

Post-yoga (I’ll write a separate post about the three classes I took in NYC) I stopped into Saluggi’s for a pizza to-go.

saluggi's pizza nyc

Loved the super old-school vibe. Gotta love that chalkboard wine list where your wine options are the varietals.

pizza and cupcakes

Back in my hotel room I had quite the feast. I tested my parents a picture of my dinner and my dad was offended that I ordered a pizza with brussels sprouts on it. He said that should not be allowed on pizza. Haha.

nyc streets

I was up and at ’em on my final morning to catch The Class by Taryn Toomey. I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

tracy anderson cafe smoothie

I also swung into the Tracy Anderson Cafe for a smoothie. It wasn’t my first choice but it was the closest smoothie place and I felt like I needed something green after a dinner of pizza and cupcakes.

one world trade

Loved seeing One World Trade in the distance as I was walking.

la colombe oat milk latte

Oat milk latte (with only one shot of espresso) from La Colombe. This was my first time having oat milk in a coffee and I really liked it a lot.

soho streets

After showering and packing up my room, I walked to SoHo to meet a friend for lunch at Delicatessen.

brussels sprout salad

We both did the three-course lunch option. This brussels sprouts salad with falafel “croutons” was amazing. I could have just had this for lunch and been super happy.

bahn mi sandwich

Bahn Mi sandwich with house-made chips.

And a lemon meringue dessert.

All of this food was SO good (and could easily be shared between two people). I would 100% recommend Delicatessen to anyone but gosh I wish my lunch experience had a happier outcome.

It’s always so much fun to visit NYC. There are just too many amazing food choices and I swear I could just walk around all day taking in the sights of the city. While I walk a lot in my neighborhood in Charlotte, I sure do wish it was a more walkable city transportation-wise.

Do you live in a walkable city/area?

What’s your #1 favorite thing about visiting NYC?

Brussles sprouts on a pizza…yes or no go?

Potato and Broccoli Cheddar Soup

Potato and Broccoli Cheddar Soup

This potato and broccoli cheddar soup is a warm hug in a bowl. It’s a mash up of potato soup meets broccoli cheddar soup, and makes for a creamy, hearty and cheesy bowl that has just enough broccoli in it to make you feel like you’re getting your veggies in for a complete meal. POTATO [...]
