Before + After, Then + Now

I so enjoyed your comments on my last post and hearing about what you’ve been reading, what’s on your to read list and your thoughts on Verity. My two biggest takeaways are that I am 99% sure I’m skipping Verity and I’m going to listen to Crying In H-Mart on audio!

A few “life lately” kind of updates to share with you in today’s post. First up, I gave my hair a little chop!

BEFORE + AFTER: CHOP, CHOP

collar bone length hair

I am the first to admit that I am very attached my hair being long but for the last couple of months I’ve had an urge to cut it up to collar bone length. The ends felt unhealthy and I had a lot of very grown out balayage that I decided I didn’t want to maintain. I also felt like I rarely styled my hair and was almost always defaulting to wet braids, ponytails and twists. So I put my brave girl pants on when I sat down in Terra’s chair last week and said, “we’re doing it!” I showed her a few inspiration pictures and made sure we were clear that I wasn’t looking for a long bob but more of a long layered cut with movement. She nailed it and I walked out of the salon feeling fresh and light!

cle de peu foundation

Of course I went right back to the straight style that I love so much for its overall ease but this length is perfect for me. It still goes into a low and high pony and still feels long-ish. Another reason for the chop now is that with the fall weather change to lower humidity, my hair will behave to style a cut like this more easily versus the frizz of summer humidity.

One last note, I got on the Cle de Peu foundation train last week after commenting on a friend’s glowing skin and her raving about it and I am a fan! It’s pricy but I absolutely love the coverage and a bottle of foundation usually lasts me at least nine months.

EVERYONE GOT GROOMED LAST WEEK

golden doodle haircut

The whole fam got haircuts last week. Finn on Monday and then me and the dogs on Thursday. I can never get over how much Benji looks like a giant marshmallow after he is groomed. And can we take a moment to appreciate his wet beard? That thing is like a sprinkler system in the kitchen after he drinks and his favorite thing is to come wipe it on your leg, haha.

DATE NIGHT AT COWFISH

I’ve been trying to make meals out a more common occurrence for me and Finn so we took a Sunday evening trip to Cowfish. It’s a sushi burger bar in Charlotte that is a perfect choice for a casual family dinner. They have a huge sushi and burger menu along with things like apps, milkshakes and bento boxes.

cowfish kid's menuIt’s prefect because Finn can get his chicken nuggets and french fries.

And I get to eat sushi! This was “THE HEARTest YARD ROLL” which had fresh tuna, avocado and English cucumbers on the inside and thinly sliced Scottish salmon and soy paper on the outside. It was served with ponzu sauce. I chose this because I wanted a roll with salmon, tuna and avocado but it was a lot of fish! I could have used a little rice in the roll but it was still delicious and filling.

THEN + NOW: COZY COUPE

little tikes cozy coupe

Well my heart just about burst into a thousand pieces yesterday when Finn pulled his Cozy Coupe out of the shed, drove it around the yard and then decided to climb on top of it. I had flashbacks to all the sweet moments he spent in this thing when he was a little dude and knew I was going to make this collage as soon as I snapped the photo of him on the car.

RUN, RUN

camp north end

I shot two running collaborations at Camp North End with my photographer Deeana this morning after dropping Finn off for school. I can’t wait to share more with you!

deer in neighborhoodI was in the mood to run after the shoot so I headed out to run as soon as I got home. I saw these three little deer as I was finishing up my last mile.

Apple Watch run

I ended up at 4.5 miles. This run was amazing because while it was 80 degrees, the humidity was only 38%. That makes such a huge difference for me and made me excited for all of the fall running that is to come!

And that wraps this up for me. I hope y’all are having a good week so far!

QUESTIONS

What’s your favorite length to have your hair?

Any foundations that you swear by?

Do you have any fall running goals or races planned?

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
