My Only February Goal

Happy Friday! It’s a crazy gorgeous day here in Charlotte – 66 and sunny. I’ve had Finn out of school and home with me for the last two days since he was sick on Wednesday. Thankfully, he’s made a remarkable comeback but we’re keeping him out of school until next week so that he can be fully 100% since he had a stomach bug and then a respiratory thing back to back. Tis the season!

Finn has gotten a lot of rest the last few days (slept until 9 every morning!) and a lot of snuggle time with the dogs! 🙂

We’ve also been getting a lot of fresh air! As I mentioned at the start of the post, these first two days of February have treated us with some really incredible weather. Yesterday we took a long walk with the dogs. I let Finn alternate between his scooter, walking and being in the stroller. When he’s off his scooter I just drape it over the top of the BOB. Today we did a stroller run with lots of stops and walking.

MY FEBRUARY GOAL: WALK EVERY DAY, NO MATTER WHAT

walking with toddler and dogs

I shared this in an Instagram post last night but my goal for February is to walk every day, no matter what. When Finn was a baby and toddler, walking with the dogs was a huge part of our daily routine. I came to love it SO much and it was a highlight of our daily routine. We walked when it was hot, we walked in the dark, we walked when it drizzled, we walked in the cold.

Over the last couple of years, I have let walking slip from an every day thing to a few times a week thing to maybe once a week if I’m lucky. And I miss it a lot. I need the fresh air, vitamin d and gentle movement for self-care and mental health.

So my only February goal is to walk every day, no matter what. The goal is at least a mile or 20 minutes every day – more when possible. No amount of “being busy” should be an excuse not to do this. For me this is a step towards taking some power back over a schedule that has felt unmanageable at times recently. It’s not unmanageable, I just need to be more intentional with my time and make this a priority.

I picked February because it tends to be a cold and blah month – I know that getting outside every day no matter the conditions will be a wonderful thing for me and all of my creatures.

Here’s a fun collage of walking over the years. In the top left the remnants of a hurricane had blown through Charlotte and we got out and walked after the storm passed. There was a tree down on our street. Look at Sullie’s sweet face – she’s like “Mom, are you sure this is a good idea.” I’ve also got a cold bundled up walk, a hot summer walk and a walk in the dark!

I’m really looking forward to taking on this personal challenge in February!

Hope you guys have a great weekend!

I cannot believe it’s been nearly a month since I completed Moab Run The Rocks!
