Hi and hello my friends. I’m happily snuggled up on the couch (love to crank the air down and get under a blanket in the middle of summer) and watching the Brett Farve documentary on Netflix. So interesting and I had no idea really anything about his story other than him being an NFL legend. Other things I’ve watched and enjoyed lately are The Four Seasons on Netflix, Shrinking on AppleTV and Friends & Neighbors on AppleTV. Jon Hamm is just such a great actor and totally makes the show. It’s making me want to rewatch Mad Men!
Let’s have a random catch up on all the things.
MOM LIFE

We are doing our first swim team season and I’m so proud of the progress Finn has made in just a couple of weeks. He’s taken a ton of swim lessons over the years but it seems everything is finally coming together. In just one week he improved his freestyle, learned breast stroke and began mastering the basics of butterfly. So looking forward to another summer at our swim club – and it’s especially fun this year because Finn knows so many kids from school!

Speaking of school, June 10 is his last day of kindergarten! He’s had a really great K year and truly loves school. What more can we ask for? My heart melted when my friend and fellow yoga teacher Amy Morris sent me this photo of her doing yoga with Finn in one of the K classrooms. She volunteers her time teaching yoga at his school and Finn tells me they also do yoga regularly in both his mindfulness special and his regular classroom. I love it.

Finn’s breakfast this morning and lunchbox note.

Sunday slime making last weekend. Finn has always loved making slime but recently is also into all things “experiments.” He loves to get all sorts of bowls, measuring cups and ingredients out in the kitchen and create different combos.

He’s also obsessed with rocks, gems and geodes right now. We broke open a bunch of geodes in the driveway over the weekend and he was so in awe of them. Note, I ordered chisels from Amazon for the geode party but it turns out a whack with the hammer was more effective in most cases.

Finn asked me to get up early Saturday to go to the farmers market before his swim meet so that he could visit the rocks and gems vendor. He was so proud of the stones he selected (and paid for with birthday money!).
MOM’S LIFE

My farmers market haul. We went to the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market. I bought from Honeytree, Bluebird and Way of Life.

I acquired a grill over the weekend from my neighborhood Facebook group and with a little TLC – it’s going to be one of the MVPs of the summer! Cannot wait to get this thing fired up and to grill all of the protein and summer veggies.

A very special reading from one of my yoga classes last week.

Sweetest dinner date.

I spent last week with an annoying cough that kept me off the roads and with a zero mileage week of running after a good stretch of preparing for TransRockies in Colorado. I also had an unfortunate toe issue that landed me at the ortho having my toenail removed – UGH! Luckily, I feel better on both the sickness and toe fronts and am ready to get back to training next weekend!
PUPDATE

Zoey is really doing so well all things considered. I’ve been supplementing her with Yunnan Baiyo which is a Chinese herb that can help with bleeding cancers in dogs.

I truly couldn’t wish for her to be doing any better than she is. She’s skinny but she’s eating, wanting to go on walks and doing most of her normal Zoey things.

All of my sleepy creatures.
And with that – time for me to head to bed. Teaching a 6a tomorrow!

What are you looking forward to this summer?
I loved The Four Seasons! Such a fun, quirky show but with some pretty deep topics. I just finished watching Yellowstone and 1883 and have started 1923.
We use our Blackstone more than the grill–it’s great for fajitas, pancakes, burgers, etc. Highly recommend!!
We loved Friends and Neighbors and for the same reason – Jon Hamm is too good! I started The Better Sister on my own and am stuck on Episode 4 for some reason. It’s an interesting show, but I steamed the floors the other day instead of starting the next episode so… there’s that.
Currently love seasoning chicken thighs with a spicy rub and grilling those up, almost to the point of burning them. I don’t know why, but they just have so much more flavor with a little char, and it’s hard to dry them out!
Congrats to Finn on finishing up Kinder! Such an exciting time for him and I hope he has a great summer!
