Good morning and happy December 1st! I cannot believe that the final month of 2011 has arrived. I usually don’t really get into Christmas until December rolls around. There are certain things I look forward to that get me in the holiday spirit…putting up a tree, listening to Christmas music, seeing all the decorations and lights when I drive around and egg nog!
Last year, I made this amazing discovery.
Silk Nog! Don’t get me wrong, I love traditional egg nog too but Silk Nog is the perfect way to add a little holiday to breakfast. I love using it in overnight oats and oatmeal.
Behold, a bowl of holiday deliciousness.
Silk Nog Holiday Oatmeal
1/4 cup oats
1/4 cup oat bran (can use all oats)
1 tablespoon ground flax
1/2 ripe banana, sliced thinly
1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
Dried cranberries
1/2 cup Silk Nog
1/2 cup water
Toppings of choice…I used Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Butter, almond butter and mixed berry jam
Combine all ingredients in a small pan and cook over low heat until thickened, about 10 minutes. Stir frequently.
What are some of your favorite holiday food products?
I’m loving the skinny peppermint mocha at Starbucks lately…tastes like a warm, melty peppermint patty. The frosted gingerbread cookies from Trader Joes are pretty great as well!
I love all the hoilday coffees that come out – gingerbread, peppermint, pumpkin. So yummy! I also love Christmas cookies!
Ummm… this discovery just made my day! That sounds sooooo delicious!
I love Silk Nog (um, it’s also good with bourbon and ice, just fyi – haha). Using it in oatmeal is a great idea! I will definitely try it. On Thanksgiving I also bought Coconut Milk Nog – sounds weird but it is my favorite “fake” nog! It has a perfect taste and a consistency that is thicker than the Silk nog, but not as cloying and throat-coating as regular nog.
So many bloggers are raving about this Silk Nog! I also heard that World Market has a egg nog flavored coffee in stores. I will need to pick up both. I’m going to attempt these oats this weekend. They look fantastic. Have a great day!
Did I miss the giveaway announcement?
Pinkberry’s Peppermint flavor ๐
I love pumpkin of course but I also love the holiday drink flavors at Starbucks. The seasonal coffee creamers (snicker doodle, pumpkin pie, gingerbread) are also delicious.
Can you believe I’ve never had eggnog?
Oh, I am all about the holiday drinks. Pumpkin spice in the fall and the gingerbread in the winter. ๐
I saw that at the store the other day and almost bought it. Now I think I might have to buy it so I can try that breakfast. It looks good!
I need to get some of that… regular eggnog is way too rich!
I LOVE Silk Nog!!
I discovered silk nog last year too, and loved it. Well this year, SO delicious came out with coconut milk nog and it might be good enough to replace regular for good. It’s fantastic!! btw – I love reading your blog!
