The Cure For A Doggy Bad Day

Hi there! Yesterday I took the day off from blogging because I pretty much had no desire to take pictures of my food or write about my day. It was busy but nothing special. I also took the day off from exercise because I was long overdo a rest day. I had intentions of running and doing the CrossFit WOD but then I found myself still sitting at my desk at 6:30 p.m. and had to teach yoga at 7:15. Oh well.

I slept in a little this morning and then made breakfast. Plain Greek yogurt with banana, Emily’s Sweet Honey AlmondΒ Hungrynola (<— so obsessed with this stuff), blackberries (that were on sale for $.99 and are so sweet) and sunflower seed butter.

Sullie was in a serious doggy funk so I worked from home this morning. Know what cures a bad mood for dogs?

Quality time and a change of scenery! I brought Sullie into work with me this afternoon to get her out of the house and also because she had an appointment with the vet for a checkup later this afternoon. Her attitude has done a 180 since arriving. She’s getting lots of pats and attention and loves looking out the windows in my office.

I packed my lunch to eat at work. I made the most delicious and filling sandwich. I mashed avocado and goat cheese together and spread it on Great Harvest Flax Oat Bran. Added tempeh, tomatoes, spinach, dijon mustard and a healthy dose of salt. So good.

All together and plated at my desk. Green apple and rosemary and sea salt kettle chips on the side. For the record, it is nearly impossible to cut an apple with a plastic knife but I made it happen. I really like to eat apples in slices and not bite into it. Weird, I know.

And now it’s time to go visit the dentist…which I am actually looking forward to! We’re so lucky to have a dentist just two doors down from us and she’s a member of the club. I’m going to pop over for a cleaning and hope everything looks good. I love getting my teeth cleaned. Again, a little weird!

Have a good day!

I love to get my teeth cleaned too! But I think you might be the first person I’ve heard agree with me! I like that coffee table and am looking for one like that. Any chance you remember where you got that one?

I can’t eat apples unless they’re sliced either! I hate getting my hands sticky. But I can happily eat a juicy peach and love it when the juice drips down my hands. πŸ™‚

I prefer apple slices to biting into an apple also! It definitely helps when dipping into peanut butter, etc. but even without the dip, I prefer to slice =)

I’m an apple-slicer and dentist-lover as well! I love how this little blog world introduces so many of those “you too?! I thought only me!” moments!

    1. That lunch looks amazing!
    2. I get told often how weird it is that I love going to the dentist too…. I can’t get enough of that feeling after a good clean!

I refuse to bite into an apple. I only eat them sliced which means I am slicing apples 7 days a week. I eat one daily. You know the old saying, an apple a day keeps the doctor away. πŸ™‚

well, it’s very easy to slice them up when you have a sharp knife but not when you’re working with a butter knife or plastic! i love apples too! they are always good!

I don’t like the process of having my teeth cleaned because my teeth are very sensitive, but I do like how they feel afterward.

I’m going to have to buy some tempeh to use in my sandwiches. Yours always look so good.

i love it in sandwiches – it really fills me up and gives me a nice dose of protein.

Just found your blog and am loving it so far!

I love tempeh but have never thought to put it on a sandwich before. But that sandwich looks SO good. Question: do you cook the tempeh before you put it on the sandwich?

laura – thanks for checking out my blog! i’m happy to hear that you’re enjoying it.

i usually heat it up a bit in the microwave if i’m making an open-faced sandwich but since this was all cold and i was eating it later, i just kept it cold and sliced it right out of the fridge.

That’s awesome you can bring your pup to work!!

Great idea with the sandwich – I need to try something like that. I’ve yet to try tempeh, but I am intrigued!

I can’t eat apples whole either – I think it’s because I have an implant as a replacement for a front tooth I knocked out when I fell off my bike as a kid, so I’m always worried about breaking it (irrational, I know). Plus, one can savour the apple for longer by cutting it up. I also like having my teeth cleaned – they feel so lovely afterwards.

You’re so kind to Sullie – too many people just don’t pay enough attention to their dog’s thoughts, emotions and feelings because they’re too ‘busy.’ Well, you are the busiest person in the World and yet you still take such good care of her. It really warms my heart πŸ™‚

hi jessica – i think your fear with your tooth is totally rational! that would freak me out too. i feel so bad that i leave sullie so much when i’m working and teaching so i’ve been trying to spend more time with her and do more with her. i love her so much! i make sure to give her lots of healthy treats too. she gets plenty of PB kongs and i mix things like cheese, greek yogurt and pumpkin into her food.

I will only eat apples sliced. Something about biting into them just bothers me. I keep a steak knife at my desk at work to cut them up with and I always get weird looks when I pull a big knife out of my desk drawer hahah.

    Theresa @ a spoonful of sunshine April 5, 2012, 4:24 pm

Yes I totally agree! Eating apples slices is much more enjoyable, I feel like the apple lasts longer as well πŸ™‚ I remember my first year in college living in the dorms I didn’t have a sharp knife and I had the worst time trying to slice apples to dip into peanut butter! But I finally just resorted to spreading the PB on the apple and having to eat is whole. Hope your today is better for you!!

I am the same way about apples! They just are more fun to eat that way.

And, I love the idea of bringing your dog to work! I bet she loved it. I have cats and somehow the idea of bringing them to work would not have worked out as well!

I only eat apples cut up as well. Can’t bite into them. Not weird at all. I also wanted you to know that I made a tempeh sandwich the other day with mustard and goat cheese and it was amaze. Love it. You got me hooked, girl πŸ™‚

Murphy rests his chin on the bottom of the coffee table like that too. I can’t figure out how that could be comfortable.

I’m the opposite with my apples. I love biting in to them, unless I’m going to be dipping them in PB. I strangely like going to the dentist too. I’m always hoping they’ll scrape as much of that junk off as possible :).

Poor Sullie…glad she is feeling better πŸ™‚ I have to slice my apples too! I don’t like the way the skin gets in your teeth when you bite into them and plus they’re so messy and drippy! I feel like such a drama queen for not liking the drippy apple, but oh well πŸ™‚
