Countdown to Kindergarten

Hey friends! We are living up these last couple of weeks of summer break before Finn starts KINDERGARTEN! His first day is Monday and while the leading emotion around here is apprehension, he is ready and will thrive! The biggest adjustment will be the early start time and longer day. He’ll arrive at school around 7:30a and they dismiss around 2:45p. A big change from his 9-1 preschool day. His natural wake up time is 8-8:30a so we’re going to have to do some trial and error to figure out ideal bedtime for much earlier wake up. He’s a flexy kiddo so I know we’ll figure it all out!

After reviewing Finn’s school schedule and realizing there was really no good time to visit Mema in the next couple months, I booked a last-minute flight for us to head down to Florida last weekend.

These two were thrilled to be reunited! 🙂

We packed the weekend full of family time and fun in the sun.

sea turtle float

Finn and I adapted this giant turtle float that someone left at the pool and had way too much fun slipping and sliding all over it. You should have seen us with it out in the gulf. We did lots of the belly laughing that is good for the soul on this trip.

We are pretty obsessed with my parents’ golden Beau. He is the sweetest boy and has kinda become the unofficial mascot of the condo development. He is definitely not starved for attention and pats.

I did a lot of running which was insanely hot and humid. My first run was a five miler that was supposed to include two miles at tempo pace. I got one done and almost threw up so I dialed it back for the rest of the run.

My second run was an easy three miles. I did that on the treadmill and did a 30-minute lift after.

12 mile long run

My final run was my long one! Given the heat, I wanted to get as much of it done as possible before the sun came up. I set my alarm for 4:40a and was on the road by 5a. I am not an early morning runner so this was a stretch for me but I’m SO GLAD that I knocked out the run early. It was already 81 degrees when I started my run so not having to contend with the sun overhead was a huge help.

It was a quiet, peaceful run and so lovely to watch the sun rise over the water. I felt really good for this run and it was great to practice doing a flat long run since that’s what the course will be in Savannah.

It was very hard to say goodbye but I’m really grateful we were able to make this trip happen before school starts. We always cherish our time with Mema, Meme and P-Paw. <3

Travels home were delayed due to weather but Finn was an absolute rockstar through all the hours of plane sitting.

I jumped right back into training and teaching today. It’s wonderful to return home to work I love but I’m missing my family and my boy a lot right now.

Keeping this one short and sweet tonight. I’ve been trying to move my own bedtime up a little in an effort to improve my sleep. I’ve also been really, really into reading before bed this summer so I’m looking forward to diving into my book.

I hope the rest of the week is great for all of you! xo

QUESTIONS

What are you reading right now? I just finished The Drowning Woman in three days – so good!

Any tips on adjusting to kindergarten/full school days? Things I can do to ease the transition?
