This yogurt custard toast has been making quite a splash on social media. While there are many viral food trends that I’m happy to take a pass on, one involving toast and yogurt custard is right up my ally. I knew that I had to try the yogurt custard toast that has been all over TikTok and Instagram…and I’m here to share that it’s delicious and incredibly simple to make!
WHAT IS YOGURT CUSTARD TOAST?
Yogurt custard toast is the bread of your choosing that is topped with a simple yogurt custard mixture and toppings like fruit. You bake it for 10 minutes so the bread gets toasty and the custard sets in the oven. You finish the toast off by adding additional garnishes/toppings.
WHAT GOES IN THE CUSTARD
The custard is a simple mix of yogurt, egg, honey and cinnamon. You whisk all of the ingredients together to make the custard. You could switch this up by using different yogurt flavors, subbing maple syrup for honey, adding different spices, etc.
WHAT KIND OF BREAD TO USE FOR YOGURT CUSTARD TOAST
I used homemade sourdough but so many different breads would work for this recipe! You could use white bread, wheat bread, cinnamon raisin bread or brioche to name a few. I even think that English muffins or bagels would be a fun choice!
WHAT KIND OF YOGURT TO USE FOR YOGURT CUSTARD TOAST
I always keep a container of whole milk plain Greek yogurt in my fridge so that’s my go-to. I love plain greek yogurt because it’s so versatile. I use it in smoothies, in yogurt bowls, in dressings, in soups, in baking recipes, in dinner recipes…and now on toast!
Stonyfield Organic is one of my favorite yogurt brands because it has a smooth and creamy texture, delicious taste and is free of pesticides, artificial hormones, antibiotics and GMOs.
STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO YOGURT CUSTARD TOAST
Start by setting up all of your ingredients. Choose the yogurt, bread and toppings you want to use.
Make the custard by whisking together the yogurt, egg, honey and cinnamon.
Use the back of a spoon to press wells into your bread slices and fill with custard.
Add the toppings that you want to bake with your custard toast. I did one slice with defrosted frozen blueberries and raspberries and one slice with chopped banana and defrosted frozen mango.
Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes. Bread will become toasty and the custard will
set.
Garnish with additional toppings. On the berry toast I added a drizzle of peanut butter and a shake of powdered sugar for a PBJ theme. On the banana mango toast I added chia seeds and shredded coconut for a tropical theme.
