Easter Yoga + Playlist

Happy Easter!

For the last few years I have spent my Easter Sundays the same way I always spend Sunday mornings…teaching my 90 minute hot class at Y2. After two days of pouring rain I woke up this morning to find the sun shining, the air crisp and everything green and vibrant. It’s the perfect Easter Sunday. And while I didn’t don an Easter dress, I did put on quite a colorful Lululemon outfit of yellow pants and a light blue top and told my class I tried to dress like an Easter egg. I also made breakfast out of a green smoothie, a Reese’s peanut butter egg and a Cadbury egg. (FAVORITE EVER!)

This morning in class I talked about the significance of this day in regards to rebirth, renewal and shedding the past and moving forward from a place of deep self-love and acceptance. I read several excerpts from Brene Brown’s book, The Gifts of Imperfection.

Wholehearted living is about engaging in our lives from a place of worthiness. It means cultivating the courage, compassion and connection to walk up in the morning and think, “No matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough.” It’s going to bed at night and thinking, “Yes, I am imperfect and vulnerable and sometimes afraid, but that doesn’t change the truth that I am also brave and worthy of love and belonging.”

Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy – the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.

Every single person has a story (or two or three or four…) and too often we give those stories way too much power over our lives and our ability to love and trust ourselves and others. It takes work but it is possible to not let those stories define you and instead you can embrace them, own them and learn from them.

We worked on handstands as our skill today in class, specifically lifting into them with control instead of saying a little prayer and kicking yourself up with all your might. (Side note…can we take a moment to appreciate how green the grass is in my backyard? I can’t stop staring at it.)

And here’s this weekends playlist. It’s a very chill playlist but one of my favorites I’ve put together in a long time. The first and last songs are really special.

I’ll leave you with the last one…

It’s completely perfect.

Have a lovely day!
