Breaks, Being Present & What is Balance?

Hi.

I think this is the longest break I have taken from blogging in…years? And it felt…really good.

2.25practice

I went into this trip thinking that I’d blog every day like I normally do but after the first day, I just decided not to. Instead I dedicated myself to my practice, my friends and being present. Something I preach often but definitely need to work on in my own life. And it was perfect. I didn’t miss blogging at all. I loved the extra time I had to connect so much more than sitting behind a computer using “oh I have to update the blog” as an excuse.

This blog is almost five years old and my intention has always been to blog every day, knowing that sometimes life would get busy and I’d need to take a day off. I’ve blogged through travel, holidays, family/friend get togethers, happiness, pain, memorable moments, moments I’d rather forget, etc. and in retrospect…sometimes the blog has taken too much precedence over real life.

I firmly believe in Danielle LaPorte’s stance that “balance is a myth.” I will never find the perfect balance with how much to blog and how much to share while still maintaining an outside of the blog life that makes me happy and fulfilled but I can be open to the possibility that it will be an always shifting thing. Just because I’ve always blogged every day doesn’t meant that I am locked into doing that for eternity. Just because I’ve gravitated towards blogging about certain topics doesn’t put me in a box to keep blogging about only those topics.

We’re always evolving, always changing…it’s how we grow. I have to believe that we’re all just doing the best we can.

So, about blogging. I planned to post again tonight once I arrived back in Charlotte.

We packed up and left the resort we were staying at for the yoga retreat around noon today. We were on an island off of Cancun. I will write posts about both the yoga retreat and the resort we stayed at soon. I left feeling really good. I don’t really know any other way to state it. The trip and the experience were incredible.

But instead of going to the airport we checked into another hotel in Cancun. We discovered when we went to check out of our original hotel that our flight home was cancelled due to snow in Charlotte. Apparently, 7-10 inches is in the forecast according to weather.gov.

While it sounds like a dream to be “snowed in” in paradise, it’s expensive and requires a lot of rearranging of plans. I spent most of the day texting and emailing to try to work out the details of getting back to Charlotte and also working to make sure that everything was taken care of at home on the communications front for the gym and the yoga studio with the winter weather. It was a little crazy!

I did make it a priority to break to read by the pool for a while and enjoyed a sunset walk.

I really miss this face and I’m a little sad I’m going to miss her first big snow! My sweet friend who is watching her has been sending me regular updates.

We’re booked on a VERY early flight to Miami in the morning and I’m praying we can make it from Miami to Charlotte tomorrow.

Stay warm. Stay present. Stay connected.

xoxo

It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost a month since I ran the Every Woman’s Marathon! One of the fun things about this year’s race was getting to visit Scottsdale, Arizona. It was my first time in Arizona and while it was a quick trip, I tried to maximize my time there. Here’s a [...]

In keeping with tradition, I’m coming in hot with a last-minute gift guide. As much as I’d like to think that one day I’ll be the kind of person who has their holiday shopping done before Black Friday…it’s just not a likely scenario. And I’m okay with that! I hope this list helps you finish [...]

Every Woman’s Marathon Scottsdale Recap (marathon #4!!!)

I am on a three-hour flight home from Scottsdale so it seems like the perfect time to relive and recap yesterday’s Every Woman’s Marathon experience. I had a great day and I’m very proud of the race that I ran. It was a practice in “fun running” and that not every race effort has to [...]
