Happiest of Saturdays!

Despite a late bedtime last night after the Beach Yoga Girl Handstand Workshop, I popped out of bed at 7 a.m. this morning. I was so happy to wake up feeling really good for the first time in over 10 days.

I didn’t participate in the workshop but I was in the room for it taking photos and helping out. You can check out the pictures from the workshop on Facebook. I am taking Kerri’s Core Strength + Inversions workshop this afternoon so I’m looking forward to that!

If you’ve got some extra reading/internet browsing time this weekend here are a few suggestions:

You’re Only Human…Unless You’re a Yoga Teacher on the Internet

My friend and fellow teacher Shanna nailed it with this blog post about the phenomenon of judgement, story telling and general hatefulness that has developed with the growth of online news, blogs and social media. I love her honesty, vulnerability, commentary and the relating back to the yoga sutras.

“Would I say this to the person’s face?

If I said this to the person’s face, would I feel good about myself afterwards?

Would I want my children, grandmother, mother, preacher to hear me saying this to someone’s face?”

If you read one thing this weekend, please this.

Here’s How Your Facebook News Feed Actually Works

An interesting piece from Time Magazine. I continue to be amazed by how “smart” Facebook is and how rapidly it keeps changing and growing. On a related note, did you see the stories about Facebook using the celebrate pride filter for profile pictures as a social experiment?

The Earthquake that will Destroy Seattle

I read this story from the New Yorker with my jaw hanging open. This piece is easy to understand and the author included great visuals you can make using your own hands.

Charlotte Veggie

My friend Rajul just launched her new blog after months of planning and prep. Check out Charlotte Veggie for an amazing resource for vegetarian recipes. Rajul is certified nurse practitioner specializing in cardiology and a mom of two. She is a strong advocate for the power of real, simple, clean foods and their ability to support a healthy, disease-free life. I am so honored to be part of her “creative team.” 🙂

I’ve been editing photos of what I’ve been eating for a week but haven’t gotten around to posting yet so here’s a selection!

7.14brunch

Scrambled eggs, toast, bacon, heirloom tomatoes and peaches.

7.18pp

Premier Protein recently started making protein powder in addition to shakes and bars and sent me the vanilla flavor to review. I’m usually not a fan of flavored protein powders but I really like this one! It’s naturally sweetened with Stevia. I’ve been using it in my green smoothies.

7.14openface

Open faced turkey sandwich with heirloom tomatoes, smashed avocado and melted white cheddar.

7.14farmersmarketsalad

Salad with all sorts of things from the farmers market.

7.28pbb

Peanut butter and banana with honey.

7.14tomatoegg

Random farmers market dinner with sauteed potatoes, eggplant, peppers, zucchini and tomatoes, sliced tomatoes and an egg. Everything on the plate minus the pepper was from the market!

7.14turkeyburger

Homemade cranberry brie turkey burgers with oven roasted rosemary potatoes and a massaged baby kale salad on the side with heirloom tomatoes, feta and blueberries.

7.18chicken

I made Ina’s Perfect Roasted Chicken recipe again. I never repeat recipes back-to-back weeks. This one is that good!

7.18chickendinner

This time I roasted the chicken over a bed of brussels sprouts, onions, yukon golds and carrots.

7.18quinoabowl

Quinoa bowl topped with sauteed brussels sprouts, eggplant, squash and tomatoes with avocado and lemon hummus.

7.18summerfruit

We’ve been eating so much summer fruit. The South Carolina peaches are incredible this year. So flavorful and sweet.

7.18cupcake

And you know I can’t let a week go by without a special treat. On Friday I stopped by my favorite local cupcake shop to find they had my favorite flavor…strawberry! Perfect start to the weekend!

I’m off to the market to stock up on this week’s food! Have a lovely weekend.

What have you been buying at the farmers market lately? (Or what seasonal food if you don’t have a good market nearby?)

I’ve been loving all of it but especially the tomatoes, peaches and corn. So good this year!

Every Woman’s Marathon Scottsdale Recap (marathon #4!!!)

I am on a three-hour flight home from Scottsdale so it seems like the perfect time to relive and recap yesterday’s Every Woman’s Marathon experience. I had a great day and I’m very proud of the race that I ran. It was a practice in “fun running” and that not every race effort has to [...]
