Hi everyone. It’s been a rainy Sunday here which has been really cozy and good for productivity.

For today’s fitness-themed post I thought I would talk about why you should sign up for yoga workshops. Oftentimes, students (especially those in their first 1-2 years of practice) don’t sign up for workshops because they think they need to be at some level in their practice that they’ve made up in their heads. Unless a workshop specifically states prerequisites for practice, the stuff in your head should NOT hold you back!

Workshops can often be the catalyst for big change in your practice and within yourself! In the years since I’ve been practicing I’ve taken all kinds of workshops including:

– Acro Yoga, Backbending and Master Class with Briohny & Dice Iida-Klein
– Led Ashtanga and lecture with David Williams (we are hosting him at Y2 next month!)
– Inversions and Core Strength with Beach Yoga Girl
– Yoga Anatomy Weekend Training with David Keil
– Acro Yoga with Scott Cooper
– Jim Benitt (where I got flying splits in the picture above for the first time!)
– David Reglin
– and many more including things like master classes, lectures, etc.

I have never left a workshop feeling like I didn’t learn something new. Some of the biggest improvements in my practice have come from taking the time to really break things down in workshops and even the smallest takeaways have resulted in amazing results.

This weekend I had the pleasure of taking a workshop from two people who I love and admire so much, Jonathan Parham and Johnna Smith. It was a chakra flow and healing touch workshop. I was on the fence about attending because I had so much “life stuff” to deal with but I’m so glad I did. Johnna taught an all-levels slow flow with a lot of deep stretch at the end while Jonathan provided spiritual messages through channeling spirit. We had 52 people in the room and the practice was really special. There was the most amazing 20 minute savasana and guided meditation at the end of practice and we concluded the workshop with a special partner activity. We paired up and then were instructed to turn and face our partners. We held hands and had to look each other straight in the eyes and then repeat three times, “I love you.” The point of the exercise was to feel connection in a world that is so disconnected and to really be seen. I smiled through it, some cried through it, it was really beautiful.

And as a teacher, I LOVE leading workshops.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost a month since I ran the Every Woman’s Marathon! One of the fun things about this year’s race was getting to visit Scottsdale, Arizona. It was my first time in Arizona and while it was a quick trip, I tried to maximize my time there. Here’s a [...]

In keeping with tradition, I’m coming in hot with a last-minute gift guide. As much as I’d like to think that one day I’ll be the kind of person who has their holiday shopping done before Black Friday…it’s just not a likely scenario. And I’m okay with that! I hope this list helps you finish [...]

Every Woman’s Marathon Scottsdale Recap (marathon #4!!!)

I am on a three-hour flight home from Scottsdale so it seems like the perfect time to relive and recap yesterday’s Every Woman’s Marathon experience. I had a great day and I’m very proud of the race that I ran. It was a practice in “fun running” and that not every race effort has to [...]
