Good morning beautiful people! How is it the last day of September already!? I can’t wait to put a pumpkin and mums on my front porch…

But it’s going to be a NEW front porch! We are moving this weekend. I went from moving every year for like 8 years to being in one place for nearly 6 years. I’m equal parts excited about all the purging that’s happening and completely overwhelmed by the task of packing up a house I’ve been in for so long.

We have both been so busy with work that we haven’t been able to get quite as much packing done ahead of time as hoped. This weekend is going to be chaos. Hopefully it will be manageable since we are just moving across town. For a minute we thought we would do the move completely on our own (like one all-day endurance WOD…haha) but then I decided that for the sake of my sanity and our relationship that it’s best to call in help. I could just picture the inevitable meltdown that was sure to occur while I tried to maneuver large furniture. I booked movers this morning.

The pups are doing okay with the boxes and mess so far. It has been raining here for 5 days straight (with 5 more days of rain forecasted) so they have been in one of two states. Bouncing off the walls and going stir crazy or passed out being bored and lazy.

9.30brenebrown

I’m still on a high from seeing Brene Brown last night. A local church hosted her and she spoke about the research in her new book, Rising Strong.

Brene Brown has long been someone whose work I admire. Her book Daring Greatly was a game changer for me back in 2013 and I can’t wait to dive into her new book. We received a copy with our event registration and the moment I flipped the front cover and saw this quote, I knew it was going to be good.

Brene’s talk last night was simply perfect. She is an incredibly dynamic speaker. She immediately connected with the audience by sharing a personal story of something that had just happened backstage and kept the tone of her talk very conversational. Brene frequently engaged with the audience and totally humanized herself by giving many real life examples of how she struggles and deals with these topics as well. She’s not one of those, “I’ve got this all figured out so you should listen to what I have to say” types. Instead, she’s in it with you. Her life is messy too and she openly shares that. I appreciate and relate to this so much.

I often feel that people who work in personal development are held to an impossible standard and expected NOT to fall when the exact opposite is true. It’s exactly like the quote on the front of the book, “If we are brave enough, often enough, we will fall.”

My heart was so full to see over 2,5000 people in attendance at last night’s sold out event. That this many people in my community are open to and interested in Brene’s work is amazing. A huge thank you to Christ Churst for bringing Brene to Charlotte. She shared that she turns down 95-98% of her speaking invitations (due to her commitment to her family) so I felt especially grateful to have the opportunity to hear her speak.

In an instance of synchronicity, my TimeHop told me that I wrote a post about Brene Brown one year ago on my blog. What a gift to be able to see her in person.

Every Woman’s Marathon Scottsdale Recap (marathon #4!!!)

I am on a three-hour flight home from Scottsdale so it seems like the perfect time to relive and recap yesterday’s Every Woman’s Marathon experience. I had a great day and I’m very proud of the race that I ran. It was a practice in “fun running” and that not every race effort has to [...]
