Hello! It’s crockpot Monday and today’s meal is white chicken chili. It’s a recipe I’ve been making for a long time and it’s always delicious! It will be the perfect late dinner for this rainy Monday.
But before I launch into the new week…here’s the weekend recap. The highlight of which was dressing up as a green smoothie.
I dressed up as a green smoothie for Halloween. Ha.
Let’s back up…
I got home from Florida around 6 p.m. on Friday night. We decided to stay in and relax. The fridge was pretty bare but we had leftover crockpot balsamic pulled pork so I sauteed more red cabbage along with some carrots and steamed rice and served it all in a bowl. I wanted to get some good carbs in before my long run. We got all caught up on Scandal and The Walking Dead (and have a serious theory for what might have happened to Glenn!).
I spent a while researching costumes on Pinterest on Friday night and nothing was speaking to me. I announced to my fiance that I was going to be a green smoothie. I googled “green smoothie costume” and couldn’t find any images so I was pretty excited to make it happen. I don’t think at this point my fiance thought I was serious. (I was serious.)
On Saturday morning I sliced and froze the bread my dad sent me home with and had a piece of sourdough toast with peanut butter, honey and banana pre-run. I have never put peanut butter on sourdough before because I thought it would be kind of gross but it was really good! I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
Gorgeous long run followed by teaching hot yoga and costume hunting.
Came home for a lunch break because I was starving and getting cranky after my long run. Open-faced sandwich with mayo, avocado, chicken and pepper jack. After lunch I headed back out to complete my green smoothie costume.
Here’s what made my green smoothie costume.
- Green tights (Morris Costume)
- Green tutu (Morris Costume)
- Green tank top (Target)
- Green beads (already had them)
- Organic kale bouquet (Harris Teeter)
- Green makeup (Ulta)
- Green wig (Morris Costume)
- Green plastic straws (Target), clipped into wig with butterfly clips
I also wore Lululemon Boogie Shorts over the tights and under the tutu and black booties for shoes.
The makeup was the most fun part of the costume. I used to love playing with makeup but rarely do it anymore since I am in a gym or a yoga studio most of the time. Here’s a closeup of my makeup. I used NYX brand of makeup from Ulta for nearly everything. I can’t recommend this makeup enough. It’s reasonably priced and very pigmented! It also stayed all night.
Makeup steps:
- Curl lashes
- Whatever your normal base/foundation/powder is
- Line eyes with black pencil
- Line eyes with green chunky pencil all the way around from right below the brow bone to sides of the eyes and underneath
- Cover green eyeliner with green eye shadow and blend out a bit
- Use a shimmer highlighter on the brow bone and around the outsides of the liner and in the crease of the eyes
- Apply dramatic fake eyelashes and one coat of mascara
- Apply a pop of bright pink blush
- Line lips with green eyeliner and fill in
Super fun! This was my first time wearing false eyelashes and I’m kind of in love.
Clark Kent and green smoothie. Totally works, right? We hosted a Halloween party at the studio and had a great turnout. It was a fun party and I received so many complements on my green smoothie getup. Definitely unique! 🙂
I was so grateful for the extra hour of sleep on Sunday morning. I needed it after the party! I got up around 8:30 and made a “detox elixir” of coffee and juice. I juiced beets, kale, ginger, grapefruit, cucumber and apple.
I got some work done while Zoey guarded the front door. One of my favorite things about our new place is having a storm door that the dogs can hang out in front of and watch the world go by. It reminds me of my grandmother’s house.
A couple hours later I whipped up brunch. I made a hash of potatoes, onion, mushrooms, turkey sausage and spinach and sauteed it in garlic infused grapeseed oil. Topped off with an egg and served with toast.
The rest of the day passed in practicing yoga, teaching yoga and a big grocery shopping trip. Sundays are clean sheet nights and Zoey commandeered the bedspread. I felt like such a mean mommy making her move. Look at those eyes!
Tell me about your Halloween. Did you dress up? Any parties? What’s the most creative costume you’ve ever put together?
