So when you write your weekend recap on Monday at 10:30 p.m. when most people will read it on Tuesday is it still even relevant? I’ll go with yes because I’m touching on three awesome locally owned businesses in my weekend recap.

While we’re talking about weekends…why are they such go-to conversation starter? I swear, it’s like the weather! My clients and I spend Monday and Tuesday going over what we did the previous weekend and Wednesday through Friday is all about, “what do you have planned this weekend?” Don’t get me wrong, I always love the conversations and stories but when’s the last time you made your Tuesday really amazing and worth talking about too? #justsayin 🙂

So in the spirit of “how was your weekend,” here is my recap!

Flatbreads Vertical

My Friday was hard. I taught yoga, took yoga and then had to photograph and taste these flatbreads we are adding to our cafe menu. I taught another class and then came home and sat on the couch for the rest of the night. (I was joking about the hard part.)

11.9zoey

Rainy Saturday morning run with Zoey. It was pouring but running on Saturday morning has become such a ritual that I look forward to that I just couldn’t skip it. And Zoey was glad I didn’t! After the run I was off to the Dowd Y to sub my first yoga class there in years. I freaking love teaching at the Y. It was so much fun.

11.9earlsbowl

I left the Y and then taught my regular Saturday class at Y2 and stayed after to take my friend Dorie’s class. We decided to go on a lunch date afterwards to Earl’s Groceries. I was famished after my morning of running, teaching and practicing so I went big. I got the Warm Bowl which was cracked fried rice (with lots of egg!) topped with kimchi collards and turkey meatballs. It was so delicious. I predict I will crave this all winter long.

11.9earlsdessert

One of our other friends who was lunching with us contributed some sweet treats to the table. Mini pumpkin cheesecakes and a ginger molasses cookie with salted caramel filling.

On Saturday evening I headed over to Advent Coworking for their grand opening party. It’s a new coworking space in the Plaza Midwood neighborhood. A friend of mine is one of the co-founders so I couldn’t wait to check out the space. Coworking is really taking off in Charlotte and I love the idea. If you are unfamiliar, you pay a daily or monthly fee to use shared office space. The offices usually feature open floor plans, modern decor and a fun environment.

One of my favorite features of Advent is their podcast studio.

On grand opening night they had a pretty massive Lego competition going where you were challenged to build a Lego creation that demonstrated community.

And I enjoyed reading the responses on this whiteboard.

11.9brussels

After the party we headed down the street to Bistro La Bon for a late dinner. One of our yoga friends owns this spot and it’s always a cozy and fun place to spend an evening. We started with the fried brussels sprouts. They were served with a parsnip and pear veloute sauce for dipping.

11.9octopus

Next up was the grilled Spanish octopus. It was served with roasted eggplant, tomatoes, squash and peppers.

11.9gnocchi

My favorite thing on the menu at Bistro is their gnochhi. My heart sings a song every time I take a bite.

11.9duck

We shared the duck special which tasted as wonderful as it looks. Is this not the most beautifully festive dish for the holidays?

11.9breadpudding

And we finished it up with their brioche bourbon bread pudding with housemade caramel sauce. Our server did not steer us wrong with the recommendation to go with the basil ice cream on the side. Great combination of flavors.

11.9juice

Needless to say, after that late night feast a little green juice was in order on Sunday morning. After juice, we got moving with a hot yoga class before coming home for brunch.

11.9brunch

I loved last week’s hash so much that I had to recreate it again this week. I sauteed sweet potatoes, a green pepper, baby portobello mushrooms and turkey sausage and then topped it with an egg, shredded pepperjack and some salsa.

11.9cupcake

I ended my weekend on the couch at my grandmother’s house with a pumpkin cupcake and a cup of hot tea.

So although it was late, I think that was a pretty good weekend. I’m happy to highlight Charlotte businesses that I love and support!

Would you like working in a coworking space?

What’s your Saturday morning ritual?
