I have a pretty big announcement today.

Complete Guide to Yoga Inversions Cover

My second book, The Complete Guide to Yoga Inversions, has been published and is now available to purchase from several major online retailers including Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

The intention behind this book was to provide yoga students with a realistic guide to advancing their yoga practice by showing you how to progress from simple postures into more advanced arm balances, inversions and variations of postures. I also wanted to provide teachers with a resource to draw inspiration for variations of common postures as well as to get ideas for class sequencing.

Inversion Sections

The book is divided into 5 sections: Foundational Poses, Standing Poses, Balancing Poses, Inverted Poses and Seated Poses.

Gateway Poses

Within each section you will find “Gateway Poses” which are basic poses that you would find in any yoga class. From these gateway poses, I show you all of the places you can go from there starting with the most basic variations and working into advanced. The book is accessible for ALL LEVELS of practitioners…beginner to advanced!

Step by Step Directions

There are over 125 postures featured in this book and each one includes detailed instructions including “hot to get there,” “where to engage,” and “anatomy notes/tips & tricks.”

Yoga Inversions Johnna

I was really happy to partner with Wanda Koch again to shoot the photography for the book. The book features the practice of my teacher Johnna Smith who inspires me every day with her grace and beauty both on and off the mat.

Yoga Inversions Tanner

And the practice of Tanner Bazemore who also spent endless hours by my side helping me finalize this manuscript. I was working desperately to finish up this project right as we reconnected last year. The book was due the first week of January so we spent the entire holiday season living and breathing every page of this book. One of us would do the pose in the middle of the floor and narrate all of the instructions for the other while they typed it all out. We also spent hours upon hours in the car driving to visit family during the holidays with one of us on the laptop and the other talking through the posture.

I can’t believe that I published two books in 2015. None of it would be possible without my amazing editor, Jill Alexander, and the team at Quarto. Jill is an angel sent from heaven and is the reason both of these projects came to life. She had to talk me off the ledge more than once while I was writing this second book. After writing Ultimate Plank Fitness, I knew how involved and consuming the process of authoring a book was but I couldn’t say no to a yoga book. I love teaching yoga more than anything else and I knew I’d figure out a way to make this book happen.

What I wasn’t prepared for was facing my own insecurities. The reoccurring narrative in my head was “who am I to write this book when there are so many other more seasoned yoga teachers out there with much more advanced practices than my own?” I was scared to put my words into print. I am so grateful to Johnna for helping me work through this and see who was I not to write this book? My background in yoga with a love for all things arm balances and inversions combined with the skills to translate that into print while managing a 30,000 word manuscript made me exactly the right person to write it.

Yoga Inversions

When I finally received my advanced copies a few weeks ago nine months after turning in the manuscript, I was on cloud nine. The book is absolutely gorgeous. So clean, classic and well-organized. My hope is that this book will be useful for students and teachers for many years to come. I feel so honored to have had the incredible privilege to author this book.

So I beg of you…please purchase, share and help spread the word! Consider gifting one to the yogi in your life (or adding it to your wish list!) this holiday season. Also, I would be more than happy to come and lead workshops covering the material in this book at your local yoga studio. Please feel free to connect me with your favorite studio!

And I’ll giveaway a THREE copies today! If you’d like to be entered to win one, please leave a comment below. You can receive an extra entry for a social media shares on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter. Just leave the link to the share. Receive up to three additional entries!

Giveaway open until midnight EST on Sunday, November 22.

Thank you all for your continued support over the years. I appreciate it more than I can ever express.
