I Take My Books on the Go with Audible

I love to read. When I was younger I was a voracious reader and spent hours upon hours devouring books and many late nights reading under the covers with a flashlight. While I still love to read like this when I’m on vacation, I find it difficult to even get through a single book in my daily life. I keep a book by the bed but I usually don’t last more than a few minutes before I’m falling asleep. Those lazy mornings or afternoons spent reading in bed or on the couch seem non-existent these days.Several years ago I was introduced to Audible and it has provided me an alternative to reading through “listening” to books instead. I use Audible almost every single day. It offers me an easy, on-the-go way to listen to books, lectures and audio entertainment. Audible even offers radio and TV programs and audio versions of magazines and newspapers.

I listen to Audible when I’m running and the spoken words, characters and stories make the miles fly by. I also use Audible in the car, both on road trips and driving around town. I even use Audible when I’m doing chores around the house like straightening up and folding laundry.

Audible is simple easy to use. You set up your account on Audible.com and download the app on your smart phone. You can take advantage of their current promotion which gives you a free 30-day trial and your first title free. I have a monthly subscription where I pay $14.95 monthly for one credit and I can rollover up to 6 credits. I now have over 50 titles in my library dating back to 2012!

I like that every time I login, Audible offers suggestions for new titles they think I’ll enjoy. I often find my next book this way.

When I use credit for a new title on my online account it automatically shows up in my library on my app (I have the app on my iPhone and iPod touch.) I download the titles that I want to listen to which is great because you don’t need a wifi connection or have to use data to listen. I have listened to several titles lately that I have absolutely loved! It’s an extra bonus for me when the author reads the title. I feel like there is so much more of a connection with the book and author that way. Here are some of my suggestions:

  • Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling – I listened to Mindy’s last book a couple years ago and it had me laughing through hours of pressure washing. Her second book is just as funny, if not more so. Mindy shares experiences from her adult life and her search for happiness, love and friendship in a town and industry where authenticity can be difficult to find. She’s honest about her feelings about everything from her love life to body acceptance.
  • The Secrets of the Power of Intention by Dr. Wayne Dyer – I have been listening to a lot of Wayne Dyer since his passing a couple of months ago. I have found that listening to words from people like Wayne Dyer, Danielle LaPorte, Brene Brown and Marianne Williamson (to name a few) can completely turn my mindset or day around if I’m in a funk or needing some inspiration. Even in just 15-30 minute blocks of time.
  • Troublemaker by Leah Remini – I listened to this on a recent road trip and it was so entertaining. It’s a memoir of Leah’s life experiences, including 30+ years as a Scientologist and why she ultimately left the church. It was fascinating.
  • It Starts with Food by Melissa and Dallas Hartwig – This book is all about the Whole30 Program which is something I have heard so much about over the last couple of years working in my industry and I wanted to learn more about it.

Audible has over 180,000 titles available for download with new titles being added all the time so I don’t think I’ll run out of new things to listen to any time soon!

Start your free trial of Audible today and download a free book! I would love to hear what title you would choose! (And I ALWAYS love your book suggestions! I’m always looking for new titles to download.)

Every Woman’s Marathon Scottsdale Recap (marathon #4!!!)

I am on a three-hour flight home from Scottsdale so it seems like the perfect time to relive and recap yesterday’s Every Woman’s Marathon experience. I had a great day and I’m very proud of the race that I ran. It was a practice in “fun running” and that not every race effort has to [...]
