Hello, hello!
I hope you enjoyed the weekend. Mine was super chill but nice. I stayed in Friday and Saturday night but did get out for dinner with two girlfriends on Sunday at a new restaurant here in Charlotte, Comida.
I taught the 4:20 class at the studio and then stayed to take the 6. I had no dinner plans so we decided to have our sushi chef box some stuff up for us to take home. Sushi (or pizza) Friday night is ALWAYS a good idea! We shared two rolls and these new avocado egg rolls that we just added to the menu. They are awesome. (Related: check out our new Namastay Kitchen website. It’s beautiful!)
The rest of the evening was spent watching House of Cards. Loving this season so much.
I made a big bowl of mashed sweet potatoes and bananas with raisins, chia seeds, cinnamon, almond butter and coconut cream. I have been using full fat coconut milk and melting some of the cream that rises to the top over my sweet potatoes. It’s really delicious! I ate this while making a playlist for my 11:15 a.m. class.
I hit the gym for a quick workout before heading to teach.
Class was so good. It was one of those effortless, magical classes where everyone’s energy is perfectly aligned. It made my day.
I came home for a quick lunch before heading back to the studio for a handstand workshop and a 90-minute massage. (<– best Saturday activity!) I wrapped up my evening by taking the girls for a really long walk while I talked to my mom and listened to some of my favorite podcasts.
My fiance had to work on Saturday night so this is what my evening looked like. Leftovers, laundry, cleaning and then an epsom salt bath to recover from a long day of activity. I am reading The Light Between Oceans and really into it.
I woke up early to a gorgeous Sunday morning. I made coffee, threw on a dress and headed to an early church service. I was back home in comfy clothes and making brunch before the boy even woke up. I cooked bacon and scrambled eggs (forever a match made in heaven) with a side of mashed sweet potato bowls with cashew butter.
We had a marathon golden grooming session that involved A LOT of hair and then took the girls to the park so Zoey could chase her ball and Sullie could sunbathe. If you follow me on Snapchat (<– @jendecurtins) you’ve seen this in action. I always post a bunch of videos and pics from the dog park. Sullie’s specialty is eating grass and rolling around while Zoey is a ball freak.
I ran to Whole Foods, taught yoga and then took Sullie for a walk so she could actually get some exercise. She loved having one-on-one time and not sharing the walk with her sister. When we got home I got to get dressed up for dinner. I have been loving this turquoise eyeliner from Sephora to switch up my basic black go-to and am completely obsessed with this matte purple lipstick from Laura Mercier. I receive compliments on it every time I wear it!
Our dinner destination was the newly opened Comida in Plaza Midwood. We started with their “chewy chips” and guacamole, which have already received so much buzz in Charlotte. They lived up to the hype! What’s a chewy chip? Imagine a warm, half fried, kind of crunchy, kind of chewy, salty tortilla chip. Addictive.
All of their drinks are house-made from scratch and they don’t use any pre-made mixes.
Here’s a sampling of some of their cocktails. I had the Flor Espanola. Portion sizes were generous and drinks were strong. We each had one drink that lasted us through dinner.
Comida’s menu features “elevated Mexican fare” that is mostly small plates and things to share. Each of us got two tacos (they are like two-bite tacos, super small but good) and then we shared an octopus dish, roasted vegetables with chia crackers and a quesadilla-type dish with oaxaco cheese, kale and garnishes. We also had an unpictured lentil dish which was not our favorite.
Fun fact: the two head chefs at Comida, Willie and Hector, worked for us at Y2 this winter when we were rebranding our restaurant into Namastay Kitchen. They had a gap before Comida opened and came in to help us reinvent our menu (which receives consistent great feedback!).
We all commented that our Sundays are usually the polar opposite of what we did but that dinner out was a really fun and relaxing way to wrap up the weekend.
Do you ever go out on Sunday nights?
Any fun new eyeliner, eyeshadow or lipstick colors you’re loving? I’m in the midst of a makeup overhaul.
What was the highlight of your weekend?
