Sunday Morning Coffee Chat

A little over a month ago I shared a “coffee chat” post for the first time and many of you responded to the post (and in the survey) that you enjoyed the more personal feel of it. I’m going to do another one today and then see if it might become something I do monthly or or so.

4.10sunday

My favorite Sunday morning ritual is making coffee and reading Joy the Baker’s “Let it Be Sunday” post. She always has an interesting mix of articles and stories to share from around the internet and it’s nice Sunday morning reading. Joy is one of my favorite bloggers (of all time) and I almost died over these carrot cake cinnamon rolls she shared earlier this week. Also worth reading, All The Things We Should Know.

Okay, now that I’ve got my coffee and caught up on Joy’s blog, here’s what I have to share.

If we were chatting over coffee this morning I would share…

How much I’m looking forward to going home to visit my family in a few days.

4.10memabirthday

My grandmother’s birthday was yesterday and my mom sent me this pic of her with her cake. I can’t wait to spend time with her and celebrate. I had my Saturday morning yoga class sing happy birthday to Mema and posted it to her facebook. I was on the phone with her when she watched it and she said she’d never had so many people sing happy birthday to her before. 🙂

I’ll also be helping my grandmother get settled into her new place. The renovations of her unit are finally getting done (why do construction projects always take 2x longer than planned!?) and her furniture is being delivered on the day I arrive. How lucky I am to be with her both as she ends one chapter and starts another? I feel grateful for how the timing worked out for this trip.

If we were chatting over coffee this morning I would share…

That April 7 marked five years since I graduated from yoga teacher training. I am overflowing with thoughts and feelings about this.

It’s so crazy to think that this was me five years ago and I’m now helping guide others through the teacher training journey. Teaching yoga is one of the greatest gifts I have ever been given in my life and it has completely transformed my life. It has opened and changed me in so many ways that I never dreamed possible when I was in training.

I started trying to type it all out here and then realized that it needs to be a post all of its own.

If we were chatting over coffee this morning I would share…

Another update on the ongoing saga of my eyelid dermatitis. I shared in the last coffee chat that it had come back and spread and that I was consulting a naturopath. Well, I did some testing appointments with the naturopath and when I was presented with a $2,500 six-week treatment plan that didn’t really seem to have a lot of answers behind it, I kindly said no thanks and moved on.

I’m happy to report that the areas where it spread have completely gone away (one of my clients is a doctor and thinks that the spreading rash was directly related to my travel and not the dermatitis) and I’m left with one flaky patch that comes and goes over a small part of my left eye. At this point, I’ve just decided to live with it. I’ve seen a 90% improvement in my symptoms since the Whole30 and it’s nowhere near as painful and itchy as it was when I started Whole30.

So that’s that. I’m probably going to close the book on this for a while. I wish I had a definitive answer about what’s causing it but at least it’s super manageable at this point. Cutting out dairy (for the most part) has done wonders for my skin and I plan on sharing more about that in a final “after the Whole30” post that I’ll write soon.

If we were chatting over coffee this morning I would share…

How much I appreciate the relationships I have with my girlfriends. I have just been feeling extra grateful for them lately. I am definitely more in the camp of “small circle of close friends” instead of a wider net of “okay friends.” For a long time I thought there was something wrong with me because of this but as I get older, I realize that it’s just how I’m wired and it’s actually a wonderful gift.

The relationships we have are real and we are there for each other in both moments of joy and moments of struggle (and all the moments in between). It’s really special to know that you can show up for a relationship exactly as you are and be loved and supported for it.

I shared this comic from Things Without on Instagam on Friday night and it sums it all up perfectly. <3

And now I’m off to prep for an afternoon of teaching. I’ve got my monthly rotational classes at the Y this afternoon (HIIT and Total Strength) followed by a hot yoga class at the studio after. I need to make class plans and playlists.

What’s going on with you lately? What would you share if we were chatting over coffee?

Are you a small circle or big circle of friends kind of person? I don’t think there’s a right or wrong, we’re just all so different.

Every Woman’s Marathon Scottsdale Recap (marathon #4!!!)

I am on a three-hour flight home from Scottsdale so it seems like the perfect time to relive and recap yesterday’s Every Woman’s Marathon experience. I had a great day and I’m very proud of the race that I ran. It was a practice in “fun running” and that not every race effort has to [...]
