Our weekend was jam-packed but in a good way.
I spent Friday evening at the studio. I taught at 4:20 and then stayed after to take a class that our summer teacher trainees were teaching so that I could give them feedback. Tanner and I brought home takeout from Namastay Kitchen after class. I had our Buddha Bowl which is my new favorite. It has a brown rice quinoa mix with shredded carrots, cabbage and cucumbers with a ginger dressing. You can add your choice of protein (tofu, salmon or chicken). SO GOOD!
Zoey helped me prep for the 5K I was running the next morning. I got all of my gear together and my playlist ready.
I got up at 6:15 a.m. on Saturday to get ready for the race. I drank coffee and coconut water and took a hot shower to warm up my body. I decided not to eat before the race since it was at 7:30 a.m. and I knew it would be very hot and humid. I also just wasn’t hungry.
I arrived at the race right before the start. I got a quick warm-up run in and then lined up.
It was an intense 3.1 miles. I wish I could say that I felt great for the Greek Fest 5K but it was kind of terrible in the way that most 5Ks are. I was pushing for a new PR but fell 12 seconds short of getting it. I was fairly certain for the entire last mile that I might throw up at any moment but I pushed through. The course was relatively flat, which was awesome, but it was 92% humidity…which was far from awesome. I felt like I was running in a swimming pool! And I looked like I had jumped in a pool at the end of the race.
I ended up finishing in 22:06 which made me the 19th female of 640 and 2nd in my age group so I’ll take it. You always play that game in your head of “could I have given it more?” but then I find grace with myself that I did the best that I could.
I was happy to meet up with fellow ambassador Aaron Hewitt after the race. He’s a PA at OrthoCarolina who specializes in sports medicine.
And I also grabbed a shot with some of the ambassador ladies (and check out that dude in the background giving the camera a “hey girl” kind of look).
The only thing I wanted after the race was something cold so I swung by Luna’s Living Kitchen on my way to the farmers market for a (very expensive) smoothie. I got the Charlie Brown with banana, berries, peanut butter, peanuts and apple juice. I subbed coconut milk for the apple juice and added spinach and it was $10.50. As I swiped my card I remembered why I make most of my smoothies and juices at home.
I did a big farmers market trip that included eggs, a whole chicken, ground beef, heirloom arugula, eggplant, squash, cucumbers, red cabbage, okra, Chinese long beans, beets, blackberries, apples, peaches, mushrooms, shishito peppers, tomatoes and a few other things.
I missed teaching my Saturday morning hot class because we had to attend a funeral. One of our students lost his brother unexpectedly and although we didn’t know the brother, the student and his wife are special to us so it was important for us to support him in his loss. I made the salad above for lunch when I arrived home.
I was supposed to spend Saturday afternoon doing laundry and cleaning the house but I got distracted by my craving for a cupcake from Sunflour and my BFF Dorie texting me, “Let’s go get a mani/pedi…we can leave right now!”
We met back up at the studio a couple of hours later for our Summer Art Soiree. One of our teachers owns an art gallery and has partnered with us to feature the work of some of her artists in the studio and to host a yearly art show.
The work this year was especially amazing because it was from artists who are closely connected to Y2 and whose art goes hand in hand with what we teach through yoga.We featured photography from Scott Gardner and his “Finding Silence” project along with paintings from Laura McCarthy who works with tar and oil. It was a heart-warming evening of art and connection.
I grabbed Tanner around 9:30 p.m. and said, “I need a burger.” We hopped in the car and headed to Block & Grinder for a late dinner. I had the lamb burger with feta and curry aioli with sauteed mixed mushrooms. Tanner had the wild game burger (which was kangaroo in this day!) with fries. We shared everything. And it was everything. I haven’t craved a burger so badly in a long time and B&G hit the spot!
We slept in on Sunday and then I enjoyed a green smoothie and coffee in my PJs while blogging.
I met Tanner, Johnna and the TTs at Namastay Kitchen at noon for an end of training brunch. I helped Tanner out with this stack of pancakes (topped with chocolate whipped cream!).
For my brunch I ordered sweet potato hash with eggs and avocado. Turkey bacon on the side.
The rest of the afternoon included teacher training closing activities and teaching class. It was a nice Sunday.
And our weekend wrapped up at home with the girls. We cooked dinner and watched Parenthood with the help of Sullie reminding us it was time to chill and relax. 🙂
