Top 5 from the Weekend

I woke up in the middle of the night and it hurt to sleep on my right ear. My ear is still bothering me today and it hurts to swallow on the right side, especially hot liquids. Other than this, I feel fine so here’s hoping it will work itself out soon. I never have earaches so this is a little weird!

Instead of taking you sequentially through my weekend, I thought I’d go more high-level and share my top 5 from the weekend.

1. Nutcracker Date with Dorie

Charlotte Ballet Nutcracker

My weekend started a little early with a Thursday evening out uptown with Dorie. I was invited to the media preview of the Charlotte Ballet’s “The Nutcracker.” It was the final dress rehearsal before the show debuted to the public.

Charlotte Ballet Nutcracker

It was really, really cool to see a full-scale production of The Nutcracker in an empty theater. There were maybe 50-75 people there.

We sat in the second row and the orchestra pit was right in front of us. I loved watching the musicians as well as the dancers.

Thanks to a one million dollar gift, the Charlotte Ballet was able to completely refresh its Nutcracker sets and costumes this year. We both agreed that the show which feels so old and familiar had a new buzz and sparkle about it. I also just find it so endearing and heartwarming to watch all the young dancers perform. It was a special evening!

2. Friday Night Paint Party

Y2 Yoga Painting

It seems like just yesterday that Tanner and I painted our downstairs practice studios. Well, it was time to say sayonara to the green and replace it with a clean and crisp neutral color. This time we recruited help.

Pizza Peel

We provided pizza, beer and wine and assembled a group of 12 volunteers for the task.

Y2 Yoga Painting

It was brutal but really fun. Painting in a 90 degree environment is always a good time. Our HVAC units are so complex for the needs of our heated practice space that we can never turn the heat off. It’s on some crazy schedule that we have to call and have the unit serviced to change. I was covered from head to toe (literally) in paint.

Prosecco toast

We had a prosecco toast around midnight to celebrate the completion of the project. I sent Tanner home to go to bed since he had to teach the next morning at 7:30 a.m. I stayed until about 1 a.m. and cleaned up. It was all totally worth it because the practice space looks about 10x cleaner, bigger and brighter.

3. Puppy love.

Golden retriever

When will I ever have a weekend recap without puppies? First, Zoey snuck up on the bed on Saturday morning when she heard me finally start stirring around 8:30. I told her to get down and rather than getting off the bed, she turned to face away from me and draped her head over the side. Bad!

Wheaton Terrier Puppy

I have a real puppy for you too! One of our clients just got a baby wheaton terrier and he is so cute! Look at that face and all that fluff!

The cutest thing was that he’s made his home in an old yoga mat bag. He loves getting in it!

Golden Retrievers

Back in golden retriever land, this is what Sunday morning looked like.

4. Saturday date night.

Foxcroft Wine Co

We went to see The Edge of Seventeen on Saturday night and it was SO GOOD! First, it was so real and relatable. Second, Woody Harrelson was hysterical. I highly recommend seeing this one. We headed over to Foxcroft Wine Co. after the movie for dinner. We shared brussels sprouts with bacon and a lemon apple sauce and some shrimp fritters.

And also some seared scallops.

12-5smores

After dinner we surprised Dorie by stopping by to crash her daughter’s surprise birthday party! I helped myself to two s’mores while I was there.

5. Home sweat session.

Home tabata workout

I planned to go to the gym on Sunday afternoon but ran out of time before I had to teach yoga. I opened the door to think about a run but it was 43 and raining. I rolled out my yoga mat in the bedroom and did 32 minutes of tabata intervals. The sweat was flowing by the end of the workout, especially after 4 straight minutes of burpees! I love, love, love that you can get such a great workout at home with minimal space and no equipment! (Check out some of my favorite tabata workouts here.)

Give me a highlight from your weekend!

Last time you worked out at home? What did you do?

Seen any good movies lately?
