Life Lately: Spring Edition

Hello my friends! I hope this finds you enjoying all of the beauty and fresh starts that spring has to offer (and not too much of the sneezing and wheezing).

Life has been good over here. I’m very much enjoying the longer days, cool mornings and warm afternoons and gorgeous blooms. Spring is so lovely in Charlotte.

For this post, I just have a little update on what life has looked like for the last month or so since I got back from Utah.

SPRING SOCCER

Finn is playing his third season of U8 rec soccer with Charlotte Soccer Academy. This has been a really cool season for him as I’ve seen a huge shift in his confidence. He’s always loved soccer but preferred to play back and hang back. This season he seems way more focused on the ball and the game, and really gets into the mix! I want him to play soccer because he enjoys it with no pressure to perform in any kind of way – but it is sweet to see him grow!

ANOTHER SEASON CHEERING ON THE CHARLOTTE FC

From rec soccer to professional football…we made it to our first Charlotte FC game of the season a few weeks ago. This has become one of our favorite special things to do together. The games are a ton of fun and the perfect length for a kid Finn’s age!

HIKING CROWDERS MOUNTAIN

I’ve got a little hiking buddy on my hands! Finn has come to enjoy hiking Crowders Mountain with me outside of Charlotte. He loves the Rocktop Trail for the opportunity to scramble around on a bunch of big rocks. This is the loop we usually do. It’s a little over 5 miles. He’s actually so into it that I am going to order some trail running shoes for him so he has better grip. We’re planning to do some bigger North Carolina mountain hikes in the next few months with our sights set on Grandfather Mountain soon!

WRAPPING UP FIRST GRADE

It’s hard to believe that we are in our last couple months of first grade! Finn has had such a great year. There is a great climbing tree outside of his school that he’s been exploring lately. I joined him for lunch a couple of weeks ago. And Benji walks with me to pick up a lot of times.

WORK, WORK, WORK, WORK, WORK (CUE RIHANNA)

I just wrapped up quarter one at work and what a quarter it was! As you can imagine, the first few months of the year tend to be the busiest in the fitness industry.

I am currently serving in a leadership role at The Health Club. I manage a big team of instructors and everything that goes on in our FlowFit studio (yoga, sculpt, mat-based strength classes, etc). We offer about 45 classes per week in our room. I train clients at The Health Club as well. I’m there pretty much full-time these days between my lead role, teaching and training…and thus the reason you don’t see me as often around here. I have a lot of content ideas in my brain…but not a ton of time to execute them.

I’m also still teaching at Charlotte Yoga. This is year eight!!!

Stats for Q1:

  • Classes taught: 140
  • PT sessions: 89
  • Classes taken: 20
  • 2 assist trainings
  • 2 workshops
  • 1 instructor continuing education weekend at Real Hot Yoga in Johnson, City, TN

I left my full-time career in marketing and advertising back in 2011. I still pinch myself that I get to do all of this for work. The days are long and the hours are crazy but I wouldn’t change it. Getting to positively impact people’s lives on the daily is an incredibly rewarding gift.

EASTER IN FLORIDA

We spent five nights in Florida for Easter and the first half of Finn’s spring break. We spent our days on the beach, swimming at the pool, at the Gulfarium, at the arcade and hanging out with Mema. I also took my dad for a medical procedure one day in Pensacola.

It had been over four months since our last visit at Thanksgiving. We rarely go that long without a visit so we were very excited to get down there. (Target has the cutest swimsuits right now – here’s a link to mine! I got a size small.)

We had really pretty weather for the first two days and rain/cold for the last two days.

I was just wrapping up my big first quarter at work and this break couldn’t have come at a better time. I was in desperate need of a few days off from teaching, some downtime and quality rest. I arrived back in Charlotte feeling recharged and like a whole person again. I love what I do but it requires a lot of giving of energy and being on. Sometimes ya gotta recharge the batteries.

MEMA’S 96TH BIRTHDAY

96th birthday

My grandmother celebrated her 96th birthday last Thursday. While we missed the actual day, we had an early party with her on Monday before flying out on Tuesday. We stocked her up with tons of snacks from ALDI and picked up a mini chocolate ganache cake from the Publix bakery. My dad also baked her a pound cake on her birthday.

It’s been so special for me to have my grandmother in my life for 42 years and in Finn’s for almost 8. We love her so much and treasure these trips and the time we get to spend with her.

And that’s all for me! I hope to see y’all sooner rather than later!
