Christmas 2019 is a little over one hour away from being a wrap and I’m sitting in the dark in the guest bedroom at my grandmother’s condo typing this post while Finn sleeps in the pack and play. Our Christmas Day started at the early hour of 5:40 but I’m finding myself holding onto the final moments of a special day with my family.
Finn’s little internal alarm went off before dawn this morning which meant that we got to take in the sunrise. Not a bad way to kick-off Christmas. (We are on Central Time here so mornings are typically early.)
My dad made homemade cinnamon rolls for breakfast and I got a text from him around 7:45a that they were ready. Obviously, we made a beeline up to my parent’s condo to jump on this.
Can this be breakfast every single morning, please?
My grandmother is the stocking queen and always does such a great job with them. Finn loved opening his.
The rest of our morning looked like hanging out with Mema, watching lots of baby shark and then going on a 4-mile stroller run. Finn fell asleep towards the end of it and I was able to successfully transfer him to the pack and play which never happens so I was grateful.
It was nearly 70 degrees today so while Finn napped, I threw on a bathing suit and hit the pool for an hour of reading and solitude. It felt amazing.
Once Finn was awake, it was time to do family presents.
I think the highlight of Finn’s gift opening experience was 1) finding the “chockie” that was in the adult’s stockings and getting a mini Twix and Milky Way and 2) this simple little train toy that my parents got him that he just thought was the best.
While Finn doesn’t understand Christmas quite yet, he exceeded our expectations for how involved and happy he was about it all.
After we were done opening presents, my mom and I took Finn and their golden Sam for a walk.
Back at my grandmother’s place, we went out on the balcony to take in this breathtaking sunset.
After watching the sun slip away, it was time to go up to my parent’s place for dinner. Our traditional Christmas Eve dinner has now become our Christmas Day dinner.
Prime rib roast, roasted smashed potatoes, some insane cheesy cauliflower dish that my dad found and from-scratch popovers. Doesn’t get much better than this. Everything was delicious and my dad really outdid himself.
My evening ended on the couch watching a cheesy Netflix holiday movie with my grandmother, followed by the show Glow Up. Clearly, we know good TV. Haha 😉
This was our first Christmas Day together with my family and it’s one that I’ll never forget!
What did you eat for Christmas Dinner?
Do you travel for Christmas and have family visit you or do you go to visit them?
Last time you watched a beautiful sun set?
