This Week’s Workouts + Running Shoe Talk

I have sad news.

8.11shoes

I have been running in the Mizuno Wave Elixir for about a year and a half now. I am so in love with this shoe. After running in Brooks Adrenaline’s for 10+ pairs, I was looking for a change when they updated the shoe and it no longer fit my needs. I tried a pair of Asics but they were too much shoe for me and never felt right. I found my new perfect shoe in these Mizuno Wave Elixir’s. They are lightweight, feature a nice cushion in the heel and have just the right amount of stability without feeling overly stiff.

I had run my first pair into the ground and was starting to have a little foot pain from lack of support so I went to pick up a new pair. I was excited to find that they were on sale…but then discovered the reason when the sales person told me that Mizuno has discontinued the Wave Elixir. WHHHYYYY!!!!???? While I can CrossFit and train in the gym in just about any shoe, it is so hard for me to find running shoes that work for me. I’m SO SAD that Mizuno is discontinuing this shoe!

So I guess I need to invest in a few more pairs to have in the closet to last me for another year or two so I don’t have to embark on the shoe fitting journey again.

What is your favorite running shoe? Have you ever had a shoe discontinued?

Speaking of running shoes, I did a lot of running this week.

I am currently obsessed with the Brooks PureFlow 2. Before that I had been wearing Saucony ProGrid Triumph but they changed the design and I was just ready for a shoe change.

Try the wave inspire 10. It’s a stability shoe and on the lighter side. I’ve been running in them for a little over a year and they are awesome!!!

I love Asics Gel Kinsei! I am now using Asics Gel Kayano 18 but it is just not the same. I can’t wait to go back to Kinsei! Althoug Mizuno has some amazing running shoes! My favorite model was Mizuno Wave Rider.

No way!!! I have the same issue with them discontinuing this shoe! I have tries the wave rider 17, wave sayonara, brooks pure cadence, Brooks ghost and seriously NONE of them can compare to the elixir! I’m so so sad. Please keep me in touch with what you decide. It sounds like we may have similar taste in running shoes! Thanks!!

I was obsessed with Brooks for awhile and am now onto Asics. I live in Spain, so I’m not sure the exact name of my current shoe, because it’s in spanish! lol

I have those shoes and have been off and on between my Mizunos and Brooks. Guess I’ll be spending more time in the Brooks…

    Brookes Vapor 10s!
I was a devoted Adrenalines fan, but it was too much shoe for me, the running store suggested the Vapor 10s.
I was hesitant at first but now I LOVE them . So much less clumpy . These feel so free, natural & light + they’re like £20 cheaper, result :D.

Noooooooo! I read this and actually said that! I’ve worn mizuno wave elixirs for years. They’ve carried me through 1,000’s of miles and 3 marathons. I guess it’s time to go shopping!

Brooks Adrenalines for life! However, I used to run in Asics Gel Nimbus and ventured into Mizuno’s Wave Riders, and fell head over heels with Brooks. Never looked back!

I too used to run in the Waxe Elixirs! I have switched to the Wave Sayonara and even though it is a more neutral shoe, and I tend to over-primate and need more stability, I have absolutely loved them so far!

I HATE when that happens! I was a Brooks Adrenaline person to and then decided I wanted less shoe and went through the Brooks Launch, Pure Flow, Pure Connect, Pure Drift, Mizuno Wave Elixir and finally I’ve settled back into swapping between the Brooks Launch and the Pure Drift. I feel like I’ve worn a lot of the Brooks line and I don’t know that they have a shoe that fits similarly to the Wave Elixir. Brooks *almost* discontinued the Launch but so many people raised a ruckus that they brought it back. Maybe you could start a petition with Mizuno?

I work at a running store and so many people are mad about the Elixer, have you tried the Sayonara? They combined the Elixer with the precision and a lot of people have been liking it!
I would also try out the new boost collection, super soft and they last a lot longer!
I love running in the Mizuno Wave Rider! Good luck with your search!

I’m obsessed with Newton Gravity. I’m in a running club and they have been bringing different brands of shoes for us to try for our 3 mile runs (before we hit up the drink specials at the bar – I love New Orleans!). I fell in LOVE with the Newton’s.

Just left Mizuno for Newton. Lifechanging. They promote a mid foot strike. I am in love.

I LOVED the Mizuno Wave Nirvana which they also discontinued! So sad! I’ve switched to the Wave Inspire and I do like it. The bad news: the new Wave Inspire 10 comes in HIDEOUS colors 🙁

OOHHHH NOOOO! I wear Mizuno Wave Elixirs, too! They are the BEST. I wear Mizuno Wave Inspires, too, which is very similar but not quite as light…but the elixir is the best. I am so sad!!

    Kelsey February 10, 2014, 6:46 pm
