Hit the Brixx 10K

by Jen on September 17, 2011

The Hit the Brixx 10K went much better than I expected! The cool weather was actually refreshing and the company was great. And since I went into it with the mindset that I was not racing and just going to have fun, the six miles flew by!

I ran the race with Nicole and Caitlin. It was part one of Nicole’s bachelorette party. There is a big night out planned for later! I love Caitlin’s idea to have both healthy and traditional festivities.

Nicole was all decked out in a tech tank decorated (with puff paint…awesome) that read “Bride to Be” and a veil. She got tons of attention during the race. I really enjoyed running a relaxed and easy race. Being able to talk and walk through water stops was a nice change of pace from being a slave to my Garmin and blasting music to motivate myself. Before I knew it, we had six miles behind us and the finish line in sight.

We finished in 1:03:43 and averaged a 10:16 pace.

We grabbed water and a slice of Great Harvest before heading back to the car. When it’s cool outside I always freeze after runs and today was no different. But I will say the Lululemon Run Swiftly Tech Long Sleeve did a great job regulating my body temperature during the race. I was never uncomfortably hot or cold.

I enjoyed yoga so much after last week’s 5K that I decided to repeat that again today. I booked it over to Y2 to catch the 9:15 hot vinyasa. Stretching in the warm room felt so good after a chilly, gray run. The first down dog was heaven.

I was ready for a hot shower and lunch when I got home. Tofu sandwich with hummus, spinach and smoked gouda on honey whole wheat. Apple slices with cinnamon, kettle chips and carrots on the side.

Brandon and I have no plans this afternoon so we’re going to head over to Amelie’s for coffee, pastries and conversation. I think a nap may be in my future too.

Hope your weekend is off to a good start!

What a great race! I sometimes will tell myself that I should relax on some races, but then I just end up wanting to go faster and the relaxation goes out the window. :-)

Have a great Saturday afternoon!
